My day in beauty with Anna Geary: ‘Since my teenage years, I have had problematic skin’

My day in beauty with Anna Geary: ‘Since my teenage years, I have had problematic skin’

Anna Geary is one of the most successful camogie players of all time, has been a finalist in Dancing with the Stars, was a coach on Ireland’s fittest family and managed to squeeze in an outing as the Cork Rose. Has this woman ever slept?! Well, yes. But certainly not in her makeup…

“I always invest in good products that suit my skin type. Since my teenage years I have had problematic skin, so I need to be kind to it, or it won’t be kind to me. I cleanse my face first thing in the morning and last thing at night, no matter what, even after a night out. I use a moisturiser and eye cream every day too. I’m trying to get into the habit of wearing a separate SPF daily – I ain’t getting any younger! I try not to wear much make up on the days I don’t have, to let it breathe (thankfully, my lash extensions keep me from looking too tired). When it comes to beauty, I’m a magpie. I love buying and trying new products all the time. Sometimes my reactive skin doesn’t thank me for it…”

ANNA’S SKIN PICKS

Cleanser: Environ Gel Cleaner after exercise and at night time and Garnier Natural Aloe Extract Cleansing Milk in the morning
Moisturiser: Environ AVST
Serum: Going to bed I use Environ Focus Care Retinol serum a few nights a week
Eye cream: Environ Youth EssentiA
Mask: Glamglow Youth Mud tingle exfoliator (black pot) or Avene Soothing Moisture Mask
Hand cream: Currently Jo Malone as it was a gift but I’ll use anything
Night Cream: Environ Focus Care Moisture+ Alpha Hydroxy
Other: Environ Pre Cleansing Oil when I am taking off make up, gets it all off; Cool peel LACM and Colostrum Gel to help clean and heal breakouts respectively; Image Iluma Intense lightening serum occasionally for pigmentation.

“As you can see from the above the majority of my skincare is from Environ. I have used every brand under the sun down the years, but this works for me, and has helped to transform my skin. I would highly recommend. My skin has never been so clear. I love the night cream, especially if you are starting to feel a little breakout come on.”

Environ AVST, €57

Avene Soothing Moisture Mask, €18.99

Jo Malone Hand Cream, €28

Garnier Natural Aloe Extract Cleansing Milk, €4.59

ANNA’S TOP SKIN TIP

“Aside from always taking your makeup off, my advice would be to get a consultation with an expert/professional. I went to Corinna from Monica Tolans just over 12 months ago and I have never looked back. She advised what to use based on my specific skin. Also, it is important to treat your skin from the inside out with supplements.”

ANNA’S MAKEUP PICKS

Foundation: My day time one is Bellapierre Mineral Foundation and It Cosmetics CC cream, and for going out/events I use NARS Sheer Glow
Primer: Clarins Beauty Flash Balm
Mascara: None – my lashes extension are my number one beauty must have. Gina in Flawless Beauty, Killeagh Cork, does them to perfection. Full of volume without being too heavy on my own lashes. People always ask me about them!
Liner: During the day MAC Teddy brown eye pencil. Black for going out.
Liquid liner: L’Oréal Paris The Super Slim Liner
Palette/eyeshadow: Current fave Huda Smokey Obessions palette
Powder: Clarins Ever Matte Shine Control (shade 01) also Essence Oil Control paper
Brushes: Picked up Real Techniques recently and really like them. Affordable too.
Under-eye concealer: Catrice Liquid Camouflage
Brow: Twist Pencil by Bellapierre
Lips: Smashbox O-gloss
Brightening: NYX Jumbo eye pencil 604 Milk Lait
Bronzer: Benefit Sugarbomb
Lip pencil: Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk

“If I had five minutes to get ready, I would use my brow pencil, under eye concealer, NYX pencil, MAC Teddy eye liner and my Smashbox O-gloss. I’m also about my eyes looking bright and alert. These products are natural looking for the days you want to look makeup free.

“I adore the IT CC Cream. It’s a dream to put on, I use a big brush and buff it on, and makes my skin look fresh and healthy without looking like I have much make up on. It has SPF 50 in it too.”

It Cosmetics CC Cream, €39

NARS Sheer Glow Foundation, €43

Clarins Beauty Flash Balm, €37

Benefit Sugarbomb, €34

ANNA’S TOP MAKEUP TIP

“Invest in a few staples for your makeup bag. A good base, a good eye liner and a good lipstick. Wash your brushes regularly with baby shampoo and warm water then let them dry naturally. It will help your make up go on better.”
