The Internet asked why people find Pete Davidson attractive and the answers are surprisingly insightful

Why do people find Pete Davidson attractive? It’s a question the internet has pondered many a time and this Reddit thread does a pretty good job of answering it.

The internet has been debating Pete Davidson’s appeal for quite some time – even more so now that rumours he’s dating Emily Ratajkowski have emerged. “How does he get so many beautiful women to go out with him?,” people ask.

First of all, rude. Second of all, everything is subjective when it comes to attraction. What draws you in may not interest your friend. What they value in a partner could be totally irrelevant to you. Some people go for looks, others for personality. For a small minority, it’s about convenience, for another it’s finances. There’s no hard and fast rule when it comes to love, or even lust, for that matter.

Yet here we are, still deliberating over what exactly it is that people like so much about Pete Davidson. I have to admit, I’m kind of intrigued too, mostly because those he’s dated still seem to be highly complimentary of him – which is rare. Like Phoebe Buffay in Friends, maybe he’s just really good at breaking up with people? Pete could probably throw a party, invite all his former flames and end the night with everyone on good terms. There are few other celebrities who could do the same.

Maybe Pete Davidson is just a really nice, kind, funny guy? People like nice, you know. They also like funny, which, given that he’s a comedian by trade, Pete is. We’ve all seen his SNL skits… his elevator pitch explaining his ideas may need work (see below “we babies” reasoning), but he’s convincing. I’d buy what he’s selling.

Naturally, everyone has their own theories about it all and one curious Reddit user tried to get to the bottom of it. “People who are attracted to Pete Davidson, why?,” they questioned. Fellow Redditers replied in their thousands and their answers are actually surprisingly insightful.

According to one: “It’s the raccoon eyes, the air of sickly fragility combined with the ultimate DGAF attitude. He’s tall. He’s funny – he is, in fact, funny like 85% of the time.” Then there’s the “mythical backstory” to take into consideration. “For God’s sake, his father was a firefighter who died in 9-11. Pete is like America’s son. For others, Pete is like America’s weird older brother. For weirdos with Crohn’s disease and crippling dependencies to cannabis and psychedelics, he’s like our mascot.”

Another claimed they liked “the Benicio Del Toro vibe”, while a third said they fancy “men that look like wet cigarettes”. That visual really works, somehow. “He’s not THAT bad looking,” one emphasised. “He just looks like he needs to step into the sunlight and get more sleep.”

This one seems to confirm the funny theory – “I know he’s not funny to everyone, but honestly I didn’t find him attractive at all before I watched him in SNL. Some of his jokes and lines when he breaks character gave me a good laugh and I kind of started to see why some people are attracted to him.” “Don’t underestimate the attractiveness of a medium-ugly guy with a good sense of humour,” agreed another. (“Medium-ugly” – way harsh!)

@Kmlevitt hit the nail on the head with their rationale. “This guy meets these women and just wants to get to know them and meet their parents and takes them to Staten Island to meet his mom. I can see how being famous but still being earnest and sincere with people he likes works in his favour in a big way.” Makes sense, doesn’t it?

Other reasons people like him:

  • He’s “super interesting”… people “underestimate how powerful it is to be interesting”
  • He seems genuine and is “confident in his vulnerability”
  • He’s “sweet and eager”
  • He “seems like the kind of guy to hold your purse while you’re in the changing room at the mall”
  • Tall, lanky, covered in tattoos, sad boy
  • He “doesn’t’ seem like he has an agenda”

The more I read, the more I find myself nodding in agreement. There was something about Mary and there’s definitely something about Pete. I urge you to
read the full Reddit thread about why people are drawn to him and then make your own conclusions.

Now, Pete… are those Emily Ratajkowski dating rumours true or what?
