A true bone of contention at IMAGE HQ: Where might one procure the most delectable of Christmas sandwiches? The staffers have their say.

I’m lucky enough to live just down the road from Juniors Deli on Bath Avenue which is one of my favourite places to eat. It’s hard to beat their Christmas Cracker sambo – which includes roast turkey, baked ham, crispy bacon, herb and onion stuffing, homemade mayo, and cranberry relish, served in a chargrilled ciabatta. And if the snaking queue down the street is anything to go by, I am not the only one who thinks so!
Another top choice when I am working in town is the FX Buckley Christmas Sandwich – made with roast crown of turkey, maple mustard and honey-glazed ham, fresh herb stuffing, it’s all served on firehouse buttermilk batch bread which only adds to the deliciousness, not to mention a portion of Keogh’s crisps on the side.

There’s a very good Christmas sambo going in Builín Blasta in Spiddal. It has a festive mayo with cranberry mixed through it, proper roast turkey slices and melty brie. Yum.

I managed to get to Goats Gruff in Dublin this week for their Santa Baby. As a true critic of Christmas sandwiches, I was amazed by it. The ingredients were spot-on: turkey, ham, brie cheese, stuffing, and, of course, cranberry sauce, all on delicious bread. It was delish!

I think I may well owe Sando Paradiso at Hen’s Teeth my first born child for pulling me back from the brink of the World’s Worst Hangover the morning after our work Christmas party. With our esteemed and equally sore-headed Digi Ed Holly by my side, tears sprang to our eyes at the sight of their Christmas toasty. With slow roasted turkey, marmalade glazed (!) ham, brie, stuffing and cranberry aioli, the festive gang’s all here. It comes all wrapped up in a little piece of parchment paper for ease of dipping into the incredibly attractive ramekin of rich pan gravy. Were there a soup spoon to hand, you know exactly what I would have done.
I’m also very much looking forward to trying the Christmas sandwich at Angelina’s. It’s available at their deli up until Christmas Eve, and it’s got roast turkey, honey roast ham (drool), cranberry jam (double drool), stuffing and melty brie. I am salivating as I type.
