Interior designer Brian Woulfe is our monthly design columnist on IMAGE.ie. Irish-born, London-based, Brian is a global name in the world of luxury interiors, creating exquisite spaces for an elite international clientele. Here, he gives us a glimpse into his busy schedule.

After the first signs of spring, April felt like the start of a new chapter both personally and professionally. From Milan to London, Dublin to the Cotswolds, it’s been a month that’s taken me across borders, through showrooms, studios, and job sites – all while celebrating a major milestone.

This month I’m…

CONNECTING AT… Milan Design Week

We kicked things off at Milan Design Week, where the creative energy is always palpable. It’s not just about seeing the newest product launches (though there’s plenty of that), but about reconnecting – with peers, with makers, with the design world at large.

There’s something incredibly grounding about returning each year and experiencing how ideas evolve and how craftsmanship continues to innovate. It’s a reminder that professional development doesn’t just happen behind a desk – it happens in conversation, in observation, in the quiet inspiration of a perfectly resolved detail.

COLLABORATING WITH… Stone World London

Back in the Cotswolds, work continued on our own new kitchen. We reached a major turning point with the selection of our countertop and splashback stone at Stone World London. After reviewing several incredible options – including Breccia Botticelli and Four Seasons – we landed on Fusion Wow Green in a leather finish, a Brazilian quartzite that truly feels like a one-of-a-kind artwork. Its texture and colour make it a striking anchor point for the space. Huge thanks to Urvashi and the team at Stone World for their time and insight.

CELEBRATING… 15 years of Designed by Woulfe

We are also marking 15 years of Designed by Woulfe – a milestone I’m incredibly proud of. To celebrate, we gathered the team for a shoot that felt as much like a reflection as it did a celebration. What began as a solo studio has grown into a collaborative, cross-border practice with an incredible group of people. The values remain the same: storytelling through space, considered detail, and design that feels both human and highly personal.

RELISHIING… Projects coming to life

In the Cotswolds, mural work continued in our country home. Liz Bacon Allison has been with us throughout April, painting site-specific murals using Argile paints. Each room has taken on its own identity – from the softness of the bedroom to the layered narrative unfolding in the living room. There’s something timeless about integrating art directly into the fabric of the home, especially when it draws on the surrounding landscape.

We also made time for a series of site and supplier visits in Dublin, where we’re working on a number of exciting projects. At the moment, our studio is managing work across the UK, Ireland, Denmark, Italy, and Spain – a spread that not only enriches our portfolio but pushes us to evolve. Working internationally has allowed us to bring new solutions, materials, and ideas back to our clients, while also giving our team broader exposure to different architectural languages and ways of living.

TOASTING… Community and success

To round off the month, we had the privilege of sponsoring and attending the IMAGE Businesswoman of the Year Awards. It was an inspiring evening filled with talent, ambition, and generosity – a reminder of how powerful it is to be part of a community that uplifts and celebrates creative leadership.

We’ve also just launched a competition with IMAGE – click here for details on how to enter and the beautiful prize we’ve curated.

All in all, April has been a celebration of craft, collaboration, and connection, and I can’t wait to see what the next season brings.
