WATCH: The Craft reboot trailer has us ready for Halloween

The Craft is a now cult film that embodies many elements of 90s movies, specifically around teenage girls in high school settings, and it was really only a matter of time before it was given the reboot treatment

It is time to call the corners again as this time it’s been made with a new cast for a new audience, though the spirit of the original (pun intended) remains throughout.

Exhibit A:

This time around, the sequel conjures up new witches while resurrecting an old demon.

Directed and written by actress Zoe Lister-Jones, the fresh spin invokes the spirit of the original opening with the beloved “light as a feather stiff as a board” game. Despite a few other callbacks ( note the end of the trailer, “we are the weirdos”), the new film, The Craft: Legacy, appears to take place where the 1996 original left off.

Cailee Spaeny stars as Hannah, who is forced to move and change schools when her mother remarries. She gains three stepbrothers (a new detail not in the original) along with a new dad (David Duchovny) and feels an outsider in a new town, until Hannah’s presence at the new school awakens the local teenage coven (Lovie Simone, Gideon Adlon and Zoey Luna).

Naturally, they soon realise that she is their missing fourth and all sorts of havoc begins to unfold.

The trailer looks suitably tamer than the original (which has more than one genuinely terrifying moment) but it certainly is appropriate given that All Hallow’s Eve is just around the corner.

Make of it what you will, and watch the trailer below:

The Craft: Legacy is released on October 28th
