Seven sex scenes in which women enjoy the act as much as men

Seven sex scenes in which women enjoy the act as much as men

When it comes to movies and television, sex is everywhere, there’s no escaping it. But look closely and you’ll notice one discerning detail that runs relatively consistently in the majority of on-screen sex scenes: the severe lack of women enjoying the act.

Sex sells, there’s no great revelation in that statement. However, going by the trends that are taking place within the film industry, it only “sells” so long as the woman is not enjoying the sex itself. A weird realisation to come to, you might think, but it’s an incontestable truth when you look at any random selection of movies that contain “scenes of a sexual nature”.

You’re far more likely to encounter a scene in which a woman is wincing, cringing or passively rolling her eyes as their sexual partner ploughs on with gusto, totally unaware of her blatant lack of pleasure, than you are to see a woman taking control of the situation and ensuring that her pleasure is being maximised, too.

There’s nothing untoward about seeing men enjoying their sexcapades, so why should it be any different to that of the woman? We have moved beyond the belief that women should “not enjoy” sex, and the time has come for Hollywood to reflect the sentiment on how this former portrayal of women is unrealistic, unnatural, out of date and unnerving.

Society wants to see sex positivity that is equally attributed to both genders, if it is going to see anything at all. Because how can we expect women to embrace their own sexuality if all we see is women who don’t?

In an effort to move away from this ridiculous portrayal of female sexuality, we’ve found seven films that embrace the pleasure of both genders in a healthy and positive way. So put your feet up, leave your shyness at the door, and indulge yourself in an evening of saucy female sexuality. Here’s hoping it makes us all a little more open to the idea that women deserve sexual happiness as much as our male counterparts.
