Kanye West concedes Presidential election, but plans to run again in 2024

The rapper and husband of reality TV star Kim Kardashian may have been an unexpected candidate, but early reports show he won around 50,000 votes, and it seems he’s not done yet. 

Kanye West has conceded the US Presidential election, where he was running as an independent or third party candidate.

He launched a campaign to run last July, and although many assumed it was a stunt to promote an album or to take votes away from the Democratic candidate, he did make it onto ballots, albeit in only 12 states, which was not enough to have a chance of winning.

Although he expressed disappointment, on Twitter the rapper, music producer and fashion designer seemed to immediately turn his sights to the next Presidential election.

West apparently spent $10.3 million on his campaign, according to reports filed with the Federal Election Commission.

He shared his ballot yesterday, where he had written in his own name. However, in Wyoming where he voted, write-in votes are not individually counted unless the candidate wins the election. It was the first time West had voted in a Presidential election.

His wife, Kim Kardashian did not mention his campaign, tweeting a link from Michelle Obama’s voter registration organisation, When We All Vote.

She also shared a photo saying she had voted, but did not mention which candidate she chose.

West’s campaign was full of controversy, including a moment where he stated onstage that abolitionist Harriet Tubman “never actually freed the slaves”. Despite this, and his absence from many ballots, early reports indicate that he received over 50,000 votes.
