Welcome in autumn with the September/October issue of Image Interiors & Living

As much as we’re sad to be reaching the close of summer, there’s always a special kind of excitement that autumn brings. The cooler days bring with them the promise of blackberry picking, bringing out those woollen throws that have been neglected all summer, and some cosy nights in with an open fire. These are the small pleasures that we’re looking forward to, and our September/October issue is full of ways to embrace the joy of a new season. From gorgeous rugs and Irish textiles to ideas for countryside breaks, you won’t be short of autumnal inspiration.

Design Awards

Ahead of our annual Design Awards on September 13, we’re delighted to announce our nominees, who we feel are showcasing the very best of Irish creative talent. After reviewing nominations from readers across the country, our judges have narrowed each category down to a final few, which proved to be a challenging task. If you’d like to attend, tickets will be available from Monday, so keep an eye on our social media channels or sign up for our weekly ezine here. 

The Houses

We visit the remarkable Rosses Point home and studio of artist Cléa van der Grijn, a 1980s bungalow transformed into an open-plan canvas of raw concrete and plaster. The Berlin apartment of a jet-setting CEO provides inspiration on how to make a space feel minimal, yet stylish and full of personality, while a Sligo family retreat marries vintage finds and beautiful artwork with the playfulness and spirit that young children bring to a home. We also explore two homes created by architect Steve Larkin that interact with musical structure, heritage, and the landscape that surrounds them.

Reviving E1027

Step inside Eileen Gray’s modernist masterpiece, her Côte d’Azur villa, set on the edge of the sea. We learn about the mammoth task of restoring this iconic piece of architecture, both inside and out, and admire the enduring appeal of her designs.  

Handcrafted Knives

Each one the product of many hours of work, Sam Gleeson’s handmade knives come from a long process of learning for the maker. We speak to him about his craft, and how it has evolved.

Literary Breaks

Just because summer’s over doesn’t mean that we can’t plan a trip. Consider somewhere closer to home with our ideas for breaks inspired by Irish writers, and the landscapes that influenced them. Whether you choose to venture west to the Aran islands, north to Derry or east to Wicklow, you’ll find inspiring scenery, as well as plenty of little luxuries.
