VIDEO: Take a tour of this beautifully renovated Georgian home in Dublin

Take a look inside this gorgeous Georgian Dublin home, featured in the September/October 2019 issue of Image Interiors & Living.

A traditional building, it needed updating for a young family, and so Aughey O’Flaherty Architects were brought on board to do just that.

They removed an existing metal-framed side extension and reconfigured the layout to better suit the family’s needs. A new extension, modern yet sympathetic sits to the side and wraps around the back of the house, adding a kitchen space on the main floor, and a number of auxiliary rooms at basement level.

Throughout, as much effort as possible has been made to preserve the historical features of the house, from the staircase to floorboards, cornicing and windows. The original floorboards were lifted to preserve them during the building process, and any that needed to be replaced were done so with salvaged floorboards, to best match the existing ones.

These details help the house retain its character while the updates make it suitable for modern family living. New and existing features are blended seamlessly, creating a space that feels calm and cohesive.

Interior design practice Lost Weekend sourced much of the furniture, including the stunning walnut Carl Hansen CH339 dining table and wishbone chairs.

Associate architect and project lead, Olivia Safer, gives us a tour of the finished home and explains some of the features they worked on. From the magnificent yet minimalist kitchen to the more traditional living room, you can see the thought and care that has gone into this process of restoring this house to its former glory, while bringing it firmly into the modern day.
