From cosy to colourful, here are 10 great rugs to transform any space

Rugs are incredibly versatile, able to add texture, warmth, colour, or a touch of serenity to a room. Here are 10 that we love, whether you want something hardwearing or just an injection of fun.

If you feel like a room needs a bit of a change, but don’t want to completely redecorate, then a new rug is a great option. Not only is it an easy way to introduce colour and pattern, they can also make a space feel cosier, or add some much-needed texture to a minimalist space.

Here are ten that we’ve found that meet a variety of needs, from a statement designs, to softer shades, and everything in between.

rug
Gradient Tufted Rug, €249, Woo .Design

Definitely one for the colour-lovers, this gorgeous circular rug’s groovy waves have a subtle Seventies vibe, while its deep pile feels particularly luxurious. It has been hand-tufted from wool, which is long-lasting and is a generous metre and a half wide.

rug
Wool-blend rug, €249, H&M

If you’re craving texture but want a more muted colour palette, then this option from H&M is ideal. Made from 89 per cent wool, it has deep tufts of material, fringed edges and a woven pattern that will all add interest.

rug
Large Spiced Ginger rug, €319, French Connection

With a palette of gorgeous burnt oranges, this rug is handmade in India from recycled polyester, meaning no two are exactly the same. A perfect way to inject some warm tones into a room.

rug
KÖPENHAMN rug, €250, Ikea

Also handcrafted in India, but this time from 100 per cent wool, this Ikea rug has a wonderfully chunky weave, which really allows you to appreciate the craft that goes into its production. Its combination of greys will work with a whole range of colour palettes, too.

San Francisco carpet, from €548, Finnish Design Shop

Neutral enough to fit with a whole range of colours yet far from bland, it also incorporates several subtle patterns in its design. Available in a range of sizes, from a runner up to a large rug suitable for a living space, it’s a particularly versatile choice.

Ted Baker Zodiac Sagittarius rug, from €199, Rugs.ie

If you’ve ever wanted your Zodiac sign represented in a rug, then the wait is over. Ted Baker have created a colourful design for each sign, any of which would be a fun addition to your home.  Made from wool, you can choose between a one or two metre-wide design.

Woolable Lakota Washable Rug, €388, Amara

Berber-inspired rugs are not going anywhere anytime soon, and it’s easy to see why. Their simple designs and neutral colours are a calming presence anywhere from a living space to a bedroom. This one, although made from wool, is in fact machine-washable, perfect if you have small children.

Check Jute rug, €149, Zara Home

Jute rugs are so versatile because they’re extremely hardwearing, making them suitable even for high-traffic areas like hallways and kitchens. However, they don’t usually come in many variations on jute’s natural beige hue, so this checked design is a great option if you want something a little different.

Kuba soft cotton rug, €200, Industry & Co

This cotton rug has a wonderfully shaggy texture, which feels lovely underfoot as well as adding some contrast to your smooth surfaces. At 200 x 140 cm, it would work well in any large area that needs some interest.

White water Hyacinth grass rug, €299, Mano

Perfect for adding some natural texture into a space, this rug is handmade in Bali. The light shade will work seamlessly with almost any décor, yet the generous fringe on the edge still makes a statement.
