Denim Refresh: How To Update The Wardrobe Staple For Spring

One of the reasons why jeans are so genius is that they make trans-seasonal dressing a cinch. The early months of a new year can so easily become a tale of two wardrobes, with neither feeling like it’s quite the right one. So thank goodness designers have decided to reinterpret denim for every day … smart and sophisticated for the office, laid-back and languid for off-duty downtime.

The freshest way to wear denim now is tailored, and from head to toe. The classic textile looks utterly modern in a non-traditional silhouette. Feminine details like corsetry (as seen at Thierry Mugler) and cold shoulders (Fendi) also give this American classic a new-season twist.

Shades of indigo suit the architectural shapes of office attire, while the cool blues seen at Christian Dior have a beautifully retro appeal, perfect for work or pleasure. Statement silhouettes are the key to this trend, even for weekend wear. But if you can’t tear yourself away from those failsafe boyfriend jeans, simply add a bit of bling to bring those basics back to life.
