Death To Unicorns! This Is The New Trend That’s Giving Us Life

If you’ve been alive for the last 12 months, you’ll have noticed that unicorns took over the world. Seriously there is 5.5 MILLION #unicorns on Instagram.

From unicorn phone covers, unicorn handbags, unicorn hair, unicorn cakes and excessive use of the unicorn emoji, we can agree that unicorn fatigue was inevitable. What I didn’t expect was to feel ouvert rage every time I spied a unicorn.

I think we hit peak unicorn with the advent of unicorn toast and since then my ire towards the mythical creatures have been intense. Probably more intense than any mythical creature actually warrants.

So what’s to replace the unicorn?

The good folks at Dolce & Gabbana called it last Spring with this unequivocal’statement announcing the pineapple as the new symbol of kult kitsch.

While these bad boys might be a bit a bit much, we can still get our pineapple fix in a MULTITUDE of ways.

Rock this trend while still being a little subversive with this cute tank

Linen and canvas espadrilles, €195 at Net-A-Porter

Shield your eyes from any stray unicorns still strolling around (they’re like mystical vermin at this stage!)

Glam sunnies, €900 at Gucci

With this leather and fur charm, even your handbag can get in on the tropical accessorising.

For something a little bit more budget to channel the pineapple craze, what about a splash of kitsch for the home?

Pineapple fairy lights, €29.05 at Asos

We’re even eating and drinking pineapple right now, we’re loving the dried pineapple from Forest Feast for a quick snack on the hop.

So line up the pineapple emojis and embrace this colourful tropical trend or the unicorns will rise up and continue their reign of terror.
