Gigi Hadid Isn’t Finished Hitting Back At Body Shamers

Gigi Hadid Isn’t Finished Hitting Back At Body Shamers

Gigi Hadid is one of the most sought after models in the business right now, having walked several runways at NYFW and a Victoria’s Secret show as well as fronting Balmain’s latest H&M collaborative campaign. By industry standards, she has a curvier figure than some in the fashion world (though she still looks teeny to us), and made headlines earlier this year for publishing a powerful open letter lashing back at the online bullies who vilified her frame. In the Instagram letter, the top model acknowledged that her body type wasn’t the same as that of other models walking in shows, but that it made little difference to her. ?Yes, I have boobs, I have abs, I have a butt, I have thighs,? she wrote. She said that she still fits the sample sizes but hit back out at those who constantly called her out for this, saying they had ?no idea what they were talking about.? Her impassioned speech went viral, and she was lauded for her self-accepting comments on body image.

Being subjected to such online hate is never going to be easy to forget, and though the incident occurred months back, Hadid addressed the issue again in the January?issue of British Vogue. The 20-year-old?landed her first-ever cover of the UK magazine?and spoke about why she’ll always love her body, no matter what haters say.

“I’m an athletic person. But I love my body because I know what it’s been through to be what it is,? she said. ?And honestly I’m not going to change for someone that is depressed about their life.” She added that every body type deserved its time in the spotlight: “The Victoria’s Secret Angels aren’t going anywhere; I’m not going anywhere and plus-sized models aren’t going anywhere,” she continued.

The negative experience, however, hasn’t tainted Hadid’s love for the photo-sharing medium. If anything, she’s become more active – her own way of denouncing the haters – and said that she’ll never conform to ‘the norm’?and be anyone other than herself.?”I don’t change anything about myself – what I post just works,? she said. “When people are different on social media than they are in real life, it becomes forced. Cara [Delevingne] was never scared of being weird, and I’m never afraid to be myself.”
