If you’re not heading to Westlife, here’s what else is on this weekend

There’s one word on everyone’s lips this weekend and it starts with a W and ends with an E. Tickets came and went months ago, and if you were one of the unlucky ones (or count it as a lucky escape), you’ll need something to do this weekend. Here’s everywhere you need to be. Happy weekend from IMAGE!

Friday: Grab your raspberry beret and head to Prince at the Sugar Club

If you prefer your Most Beautiful Girls in the World to your Uptown Girls, head to the Sugar Club tonight for another of their brilliant music nights out. With the 35th anniversary of Purple Rain, belt out some of Prince’s biggest hits, as well as the 80’s party for the rest of the night.

All weekend: Go back to the 80’s at Forever Young in Kildare

Human League, Marc Almond, Bonnie Tyler — have all our 80’s dreams come true at once? The answer is yes, with Forever Young festival coming this weekend in Kildare. The original decade of power ballads, this lot could teach Westlife a thing or two. Tickets still available from €107 for a day ticket.

All weekend: Get grub at Guinness X Meatopia

If food is where your head’s at this weekend (and to be honest, we’re right there with you) James’ Gate is your port of call. Meatopia are holding their annual event with Guinness, with live music, one-off dishes and plenty of beers to wash it down.

Saturday: Head to something different with Damien Dempsey at the Iveagh Gardens

Another music event to drag your attention away from Croker, Dublin legend Damien Dempsey is playing a decidedly different, but just as impressive, set at the Iveagh Gardens on Saturday night. Expect ballads, emotions and maybe a few tears — who can tell the difference?
