What Men Listen to on Spotify

What Men Listen to on Spotify

beyonce smiling as she holds three music awards

Last week, in honour of International Women’s Day, Spotify released their list of the most-listened to female artists on the music streaming platform, and let’s just say both genders have great taste in empowering women.

Beyonc? ranked number one among female listeners – which surprised no one. She was followed by Katy Perry and Lana Del Ray.

Taylor Swift came in ninth place, despite having removed her catalogue from the service in protest at the payment scheme offered. Here’s the top ten singers that women tend to listen to. Lot of power ladies, eh?

1. Beyonc?

2. Katy Perry

3. Lana Del Rey

4. Rihanna

5. Ariana Grande

6. Lorde

7. Miley Cyrus

8. Taylor Swift

9. Ellie Goulding

10. Nicki Minaj

And when it came to male listeners, Katy Perry and her left shark triumphed. The rest of the list is pretty similar, which is pretty encouraging. A good female artist is a good artist. Nothing to do with her being a woman’s singer.

1. Katy Perry

2. Lana Del Rey

3. Lorde

4. Ariana Grande

5. Rihanna

6. Beyonc?

7. Ellie Goulding

8. Miley Cyrus

9. Lady Gaga

10. Iggy Azalea

When it came to both sexes Rihanna came out on top, with her Monsters duet with Eminem helping her edge ahead. That single alone has been streamed 200 million times. Gwan Rihanna. Katy Perry came in second place and Beyonc? was third.

However, as Billboard pointed out, the most-listened to artist on Spotify in 2014 was actually a bloke, Ed Sheeran. Yes, Ed is probably the nicest guy in the world, but wouldn’t it be a great internet coup for the sisterhood to nab the 2015 spot?

Get started on that collective mission with this killer playlist from Tegan and Sara.
