Wellness Holidays Are On The Rise For The Irish

Wellness Holidays Are On The Rise For The Irish

If it’s a holiday you’re after, you’re in good company if you’ve decided to ditch the booze-filled week in Santa Ponza in favour of something more restorative and wellness-focused elsewhere. According to a new survey by VisitScotland, a staggering 82% of Irish folks have already enjoyed a health focused trip in 2015. Not only that but every second person surveyed was reportedly interested in finding out more about wellness breaks away. It makes sense; our lives are busier than ever, we’re dealing with more stress day in, day out, and we’re getting more and more health conscious in a bid to manage stress levels and remain on an even keel.

For some, a wellness holiday could involve lounging in a spa pool, but for many, it simply involves getting outdoors and getting active; it needn’t be quiet and, dare we say it, ‘boring’.

While yoga and detox breaks still entice females in particular (42%), men are the big lovers of fitness and bootcamp holidays. Half would travel with a partner on a healthy break away with one in five ready to bring the whole family along on the journey into the great outdoors.

For wellness options just across the pond, VisitScotland has options aplenty. From the Scottish geoparks to their wildlife and their intriguing yoga retreats, you’re spoiled for choice (and shortbread).

Those after a staycation should consider venturing up North, where the Giant’s Causeway will do wonders to restore your energy levels. Just a short drive away, you can then unwind at Galgorm Resort & Spa where the facilities are second to none. Their thermal village will wash away your worries while their Voya and Aromatherapy Associates treatments get to work on relaxing your body for a blissful night’s sleep.

If it’s West your headed, the Wild Atlantic Way, coupled with the Voya Seaweed Baths at Strandhill, Sligo are well worth a dip.
