Brace yourselves — things are about to get stormy. Storm Lorenzo is set to hit Ireland with winds and heavy rainfall

Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow weather warning for nine counties this week, as Hurricane Lorenzo is set to hit Irish shores on Thursday.

The warning applies to counties Dublin, Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Wexford, Wicklow, Tipperary, Waterford, Cork and Kerry and is in effect until 8 pm tonight. It warns of 25 to 35 mm of rainfall, with a risk of spot flooding.

Heavy rain will begin in the south and west today, spreading northwards by evening. Tonight will see further rain and showers across the country, leading to a damp, blustery start to Tuesday.

While rain will clear away as Tuesday goes on, winds will remain strong and blustery along east coasts.

While Wednesday will be a dry and breezy day, it looks like it will be the calm before the storm, as Hurricane Lorenzo will make its path towards Ireland, to hit by Thursday morning.

Met Éireann is unsure of its exact track but predicts it may hit the west coast, bringing milder weather, as it will most likely be classed as a tropical storm by this stage.

Sounds like a week to start a new box set!
