Romantic Men in Literature: Eason’s Top 10

romantic men in literature

Who needs a man in real life when you’ve got the most romantic men living in literature? Behold, Eason‘s top 10 male valentines in literature. If you’re after some indulgent, romantic reading this weekend, here are the books that’ll put your significant other to shame. After all, does your man go swimming in a lake in a billowing white shirt? Does he glitter in the sun? No.

Needless to say, Mr Darcy of Pride and Prejudice comes out on top, followed closely behind by Twilight‘s Edward Cullen. The incredibly endearing Augustus Waters from The Fault in Our Stars ranks third while Jack Twist of Brokeback Mountain narrowly makes the top 10. Jake Gyllenhaal at his finest.

Mark Darcy from Bridget Jones also makes this list, but we reckon that’s down to the fact that he’s pretty much the same as Mr Darcy from Pride and Prejudice, and indeed played by the same actor, Colin Firth, in the film and TV adaptations. (Though we think Matthew McFadyen deserves props for his turn opposite Keira Knightley). Enough from us, behold the list…

Mr Darcy – Pride and Prejudice

Edward Cullen – Twilight

Augustus Waters – The Fault In Our Stars

Captain Corelli – Captain Corelli’s Mandolin

Henry DeTamble – The Time Traveller’s Wife

Mark Darcy – Bridget Jones? Diary

Edward Rochester – Jane Eyre

Noah Calhoun – The Notebook

Romeo – Romeo and Juliet

Jack Twist – Brokeback Mountain

Who else would you include?
