From Saoirse Ronan to Sinéad Burke, these are five Irish women who have dazzled at the Met Gala

From Saoirse Ronan to Sinéad Burke, these are five Irish women who have dazzled at the Met Gala

Irish women are doing it for themselves. At previous Met Gala’s many of our beloved exports have shone brightly on the pink carpet.

At IMAGE, few things make us prouder than seeing amazing Irish women flying the flag for us on foreign soil.

Saoirse Ronan, Sinéad Burke, Michaela O’ Shaughnessy, Samantha Barry and Ruth Negga are Irish women who have stood their ground against the heavyweights of the fashion and entertainment worlds, and we think they may have won the battle.

The key to good Met Gala dressing is having a stunning ensemble, but the key to great Met Gala dressing is when the person wearing the outfit still looks unapologetically like themselves.

Each of our five Irish golden girls did this with ease and elegance…

The Carlow native looked like a true queen of dragons in her Gucci gown. The sequinned armour-inspired dress with golden flames across her chest was a showstopper; placing Saoirse on every best-dressed list on the internet.

Her natural hair and make-up let the dress do all the talking and allowed her natural beauty to shine through. She looked relaxed and comfortable, yet seriously powerful in the most majestic way.

This lady’s star shoots higher into the sky every day, and this look was no exception. Sinéad stunned in a black velvet Gucci number adorned with blue silk bows across the chest and a gold crown. Her appearance on the pink carpet marks the first time a little person has attended the Met Gala, making her night all the more historic.

In a piece written for British Vogue, she said: “Growing up, I longed to witness someone like me on the live stream – because the Met Gala is a symbol of the fashion system, an institution within the fashion calendar and a global touchpoint for so many to be educated on the voices that we should listen to. As a disabled woman, I firmly believe in the phrase, “If you can see it, you can be it”.

Glamour‘s editor-in-chief and Cork-native Samantha Barry is a bonafide powerhouse. Dressed in a gold lamé Jason Rembert suit, with power shoulders and bell bottom flair trousers, she dazzled and looked every inch like a 1970’s bombshell.

Ruth Negga

Limerick-born and Oscar-nominated actress Ruth Negga looked cool, collected and chic as she wore a structured, sequinned floral Louis Vuitton top and trousers with matching Irene Neuwirth jewellery and custom headband.

Previously Glamour‘s senior social manager Galway girl Michaela O’ Shaughnessy worked her third Met Gala this year. Michaela covered social media for the US magazine and looked nothing short of stunning in doing so. Dressed in a Rejina Pyo silver creation with statement earrings in tow, she looked divine.
