The SAG Awards 2017: The Winners

It was a night to award accolades to the finest performances in Hollywood, but this year, the 2017 Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG) stood for something else: unity and protest against Trump, who this weekend caused chaos and outrage when he signed an executive order targeting muslim-majority countries and shutting down refugee entry to the US.

Actors Emma Stone, Bryan Cranston, Ashton Kutcher and Julia Louis-Dreyfus all spoke against President Donald Trump at the SAG Awards – but one speech caused a stirring reaction.

Netflix series?Stranger Things won Best Ensemble in a Drama Series – one of the biggest surprises?of the night as it took out none of the individual prizes – and actor David Harbour’s acceptance speech – and his co-star Winona Ryder’s reaction to it – promptly went viral.

?This is unreal. I’d just like to say that with all that’s going on tonight, it’s hard to celebrate the already celebrated Stranger Things.?We will repel bullies, we will shelter freaks and outcasts, we will hunt monsters, and when we are lost, we will punch some people in the face, and we will do it all with soul, with heart and with joy. We thank you for this responsibility,” he said.

Ryder’s reaction displayed every emotion possible:

Numerous loud cheers greeted statements of protest denouncing the new immigration restrictions by many attendees, and a celebration of diversity by Taylor Schilling also received rapturous applause, after she’spoke after her series Orange is the New Black won best comedy series.

Scandal actress Kerry Washington also told the audience, ?Actors are activists no matter what? and at one point,??the whole room erupted and yelled out ?power to the people?.
