Even better, the research by Craig Knight (a psychologist and founding director of Exeter) shows employees who completely personalise their workspace are up to 25% more productive than those in neutral spaces.

It seems subtle changes can improve an employee’s motivation and focus. Decorating your desk with personal items (such as family photos or children’s drawings) can give workers a greater sense of ownership and control over their space. A study published by the Association for Psychological Science says, “Individuals may consciously (or subconsciously) take comfort from the items with which they surround themselves at work.” With that in mind, we ought to revamp our workstations immediately.
