This Is The Reason Women Need More Sleep Than Men

This Is The Reason Women Need More Sleep Than Men

Science has confirmed it; women officially need more sleep than men. The reason? It’s apparently because the female brain?is more complex,?a new study from England’s Loughborough University reveals.

?For women, poor sleep is strongly associated with high levels of psychological distress and greater feelings of hostility, depressions, and anger,? professor Jim Horne, director of the university’s Speech Research Center, told Metro UK. ?In contrast, these feelings were not associated with the same degree of sleep disruption in men.?

According to Horne, the reason women are more heavily impacted by a lack of sleep is because their brains are called upon to perform more complicated tasks on a daily basis. Well, multitasking isn’t what you’d call easy.

?Women’s brains are wired differently from men’s and are more complex, so their sleep need will be slightly greater,? he said. ?The more of your brain you use during the day, the more of it that needs to recover and, consequently, the more sleep you need.?

He also brought up the multitasking factor, which results in more use and therefore, stress on the female brain.

“Women tend to multitask – they do lots at once and are flexible – and so they use more of their actual brain than men do,” he added. “Because of that, their sleep need is greater.”

But, yes, there is an exception to this rule, particularly if the man has a complex job. ?”A man who has a complex job that involves a lot of decision-making and lateral thinking may also need more sleep than the average male,” Horne added.

“Though probably still not as much as a woman.”

So, go ahead ladies, catch up on those extra zzz’s in the name of science.
