14th May 2018
We’ve always been fans of design that stands the test of time, so we’ll be first in line at the next deVeres Design Auction, starting at 6pm this May 22 at their Dublin showroom. Featuring work from a number of renowned furniture designers, sculptors, ceramicists and artists, including some notable Irish creations, it’s an ideal chance to bring some design history into your own home.
The lots will be available to view from four days before the auction at deVeres, 35 Kildare street. The Design Auction catalogue is also available online, and from it, we’ve picked out some of the pieces we’ve been dreaming about.

This sculptural chair was created by Cork-based designer Joseph Walsh. Crafted from ash wood, its fluid shape is fascinating yet it remains functional. Lot 40, guide price €6,000 – 9,000.
Irish painter Theo McNab completed this work in acrylic on canvas in his signature abstract, minimalist style. Lot 78, guide price €800 – 1,200.

Velvet easy chairs
This pair of Italian chairs date from the 1950s, yet their blush shade feels very current. Lot 18, guide price €800 – 1,200.
Designed by Dutch designer and architect Louis Kalff for Phillips in the 1950s, this desk lamp’s simple design looks as modern today as it did back then. Lot 1, guide price €300 – 500.
Rectangular gilt wall mirror
This beautiful mirror would be equally as striking in a hallway, bedroom or living room. Lot 15, guide price €400- 600.

Irish artist Patrick Scott was perhaps best known for his gold paintings, where he incorporates geometric forms in gold leaf to his abstract designs. This canvas features both gold leaf and palladium silver leaf, dating from 1991. Lot 62, guide price €10,000 – 15,000.
A Crock of Gold
Kildare craftsman Emmet Kane combines wood and metal in this intruiging sculpture. It is made from ebonised Irish burr oak with gold inset. Lot 135, guide price €1,000 – 1,500.
