We love a good royal around these parts, and as much as musing over the style evolution of Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton provides us with a delightful spectator sport in which to indulge, we’ve found another royal style crush in the form of Spain’s Queen Letizia.
Queen Letizia is an intriguing royal in that she had a proper civilian life complete with a career and previous marriage before taking up with Prince of Asturias in 2003.
Born?Letizia Ortiz Rocasolano, she is the wife of?King Felipe VI, who ascended on 19 June 2014 on the abdication of his father?Juan Carlos I. The royal couple have two daughters, Princess Leonor and Princess Sof?a.
Letizia worked as a journalist and news reporter, she covered the 2000?US presidential election, reported from Ground Zero in the wake of the 9/11 attacks and worked on stories from Iraq the following year. It’s quite a contrast from Kate Middleton’s distinctly more protected upbringing, which many saw as a kind of royal-in-waiting existence.
Despite being nearly 10 years older than Kate, Letizia has a considerably more edgy, youthful style and is actually a pretty good template for anyone dressing for the corporate role who doesn’t want to sacrifice their individuality.
Kate, as we all know, is fond of a fascinator and style stalwarts such as the flippy?A-line skirt, bound as she is by the strict style code of the British royals. Meanwhile, Letizia seems to struggle with no such constraints rocking an altogether more’daring look whether she’s appearing at royal engagements or kicking back with her family on holiday. It’s an excellent balance of?laid back vibes, while never looking?less than impeccably smart.
