Kate Hudson’s Biological Father Disowns Her

Kate Hudson’s Biological Father Disowns Her

Siblings and actors Oliver and Kate Hudson better ignore their personal Google Alerts this week, as things are after getting very ugly and personal for them after their biological father spoke to the press and effectively said he no longer considered them his children.

How did things arrive at such a public impasse? Instagram. For Father’s Day a few weeks ago, Oliver posted a photo to the photo-sharing app of him and his sister Kate alongside their biological father, Bill Hudson. He captioned the shot: ?Happy Abandonment Day?.

Bill was married to Oliver and Kate’s mother, the actress Goldie Hawn for four years in the late seventies. The pair divorced and Goldie’s longterm partner, Kurt Russell, raised Oliver and Kate. In fact, Kate and Oliver both shared photos of Russell on Instagram that same day, thanking him for his contribution to their lives.

None of the above pleased Bill, who has since remarried and gone on to have another family. In fact, Bill decided to speak to the Daily Mail about the entire sorry mess and says that he has disowned his two eldest children. ?I had five birth children but I now consider myself a father of three. I no longer recognise Oliver and Kate as my own,? he said. ?I would ask them to stop using the Hudson name. They are no longer a part of my life. Oliver’s Instagram post was a malicious, vicious, premeditated attack. He is dead to me now. As is Kate. I am mourning their loss even though they are still walking this earth.?

Throughout the interview, Bill speaks disparagingly of his children, and their mother. He accuses Goldie of creating the rift in the family as she wanted Kurt in the position of dad. It’s not the most comforting read. Especially when Bill lays into his son and says the entire exercise may have been one of attention-seeking as opposed to emotional purging. ?Oliver has lived in the shadow of his mother and sister all his life. Maybe he wanted to be in the headlines?? Bill mused. That is a man who is burning his bridges. Familial estrangement is always an extremely tough thing to deal with. We can only imagine how stressful such a fallout can be when it’s in the public eye and involves a father telling one of the world’s most read tabloids that his children are dead to him, and he’d rather they didn’t use his surname anymore.

Maybe Oliver should have a taken a page from current affairs journalist Ronan Farrow, son of Mia Farrow and Woody Allen, and gone for perhaps-too-edgy laughs?
