Jo’s girl about town: for the long weekend

By IMAGE
02nd May 2015

Flamingos, Asian food, joy of reading and Fran fro Love Hate’s new gig – welcome to your weekly update.

It’s the bank holiday weekend! Hopefully you’re reading this with a large delicious drink in your hand and nothing to do but sit back and chill. If you’re currently trying to beat off unwanted offers/appointments/dates with a large unsuccessful stick, read Caroline Foran’s excellent article about saying no here. This week has been crazy, beginning with ?

The S’der + Ko launch.?If you DO decide to leave your house this weekend, pop in and let me know what you think. It’s tasty.

Flamingos. If it’s possible to have a ?creature of the season? it’s this bird. River Island left one on my desk this week and made my day. They just make you happy, don’t they?

In the Fold, an exhibition of Irish design, opens in Kildare Village this week. I can’t wait to get down to their Craft of Weaving workshop with Oliver Duncan Doherty, one of many that’ll be happening in the village. The design talent we have in Ireland is so impressive and this photo exhibition captures it beautifully. Get down there.

Long form essays online are a thing. Oh yes, they are. My wonderful friend, the incredible journalistic talent that is Sarah Waldron, has launched Coven, a digital space for women who want to write a little more than a listicle. It’s good stuff written by smart, witty and insightful girls who you want to be friends with. Break out the reading glasses, load your concentration levels and get on it. I have an essay up there this weekend … cough, plug, cough.

This weekend I will be – popping in to one of my favourite places in the world, Ballyvolane House, close to my hometown in Cork. Just wandering around the house and taking in the grounds puts the worlds to rights.

Wearing – Penneys denim. The new selection of jeans and shirts is comfy and covetable. Making me feel all Texan.

Relishing .. all the great Irish film that’s out at the moment. I can’t wait to see Glassland with Jack Reynor and Get Up And Go with Killian Scott and Peter Coonan (who is also performing in Project Arts Centre’s Before Monsters Were Made this month. I’ve heard good things.. Also very excited to see the incredible Moe Dunford up for an IFTA for his role in Patrick’s Day and Eimer Ni Mhaoldomnaigh (who I interviewed in the March issue) for her costume design in Jimmy’s Hall. G?wan the lads.

See you next week! X
