Jamie Dornan Talks Twilight and Robert Pattinson

With the release of Fifty Shades of Grey just around the corner, it seems Jamie Dornan is dealing with the inevitable thoughts of ‘Oh crap, what will people think of it? Will this be the biggest flop of my career?’ And with the film’s director, Sam Taylor Johnson revealing that she almost lost her mind making this movie, we’re not surprised they’re all on a ‘knife’s edge’.

Regardless of what we may think of the movie when we eventually see it – though we already know it will be devoid of one particularly saucy scene – Jamie is adamant that it’s nothing like the Twilight movie franchise, of which is pal Robert Pattinson was the reluctant star. In a new interview with Variety, Dornan says:

“By the way, it’s not the same thing. We’re not the Twilight franchise. We’re a different thing. Whatever my situation is, it’s going to be different from Rob’s. They are incomparable. I’ve been around Rob long enough to see what it’s been like for him. I don’t know if it’s been a benefit to witness that. Whatever that is.”

So there you have it, don’t go into it expecting brooding vampires and twitchy teenage girls. Admittedly, the two series do easily interlink, minus the fangs and blood. But as for brooding? They go hand in hand. It’s more so the sudden surge of worldwide fame that Jamie’s referring to. He says: “I’m astonished at how many people are telling me my life is going to?change. Everyone that I meet, especially in L.A. People who run studios or other actors or people who are strangers. Everyone has been saying that to me, ?Are you ready?? I don’t have a good?answer?to that, because I don’t know what I’m meant to be ready for. Whatever happens, happens. I’ll just roll with the punches.”

Other tidbits from Variety‘s interview further reminds us why we enjoy Jamie Dornan’s dry humour so much.

On covering up his meat and two veg for the forthcoming movie, Jamie says:It’s like?one of those?little satchels that?Robin Hood?or someone of that era would have tied on to his belt. There’s no back. It’s tiny. I mean, it’s not tiny! Because it’s got to hold a lot.”

On his friendship with Mr Pattinson: “I don’t remember what we talked about the last time I saw him. I think we just got drunk.”

On the fact that he’s partial to the odd drunk tweet:I woke up the next day, and I’d seen I’d tweeted the word ?Christmas? at around 1 in the morning. I don’t know if I planned on saying more?like, ‘Christmas is?a time?of reflection.’ It made me wish I didn’t know my Twitter password and I wasn’t able to get on and do stuff like that.”

Oh, Jamie.
