The IMAGE Staff Digest: Our February Favourites

As February draws to a close, the staff at IMAGE reflect on their February favourites..

WE VISITED…

The Gym (and enjoyed it)

A recent trip to London highlighted just how good hotel gyms could be if they were given a little more love and attention. Guests of the Marylebone Hotel enjoy complimentary access to on-site Third Space, one of London’s premium members-only health clubs with state-of-the-art equipment, professional coaches and super clean facilities. The changing rooms alone are worth a visit. I can’t report on the Gents, but the Ladies are generously stocked with hair dryers, straighteners, bobbins and beauty products at every station. If more hotels brought their gym A-game I might actually work out more when I travel. (Don’t hold me to that). – Rosie McMeel, Editor of IMAGE Magazine.

WE ATE AND DRANK?

I ate dreamy rose brulee at Rasam, Glasthule. On another floral tip, I made my own small-batch rosebud gin at Listoke Distillery in Drogheda – a fantastic day-out for juniper lovers. Over the course of three hours, you learn the art of gin-making, the fascinating history of the historic Listoke estate – and also get to meet its resident barn owls Gin and Tonic, whose feathers are as soft as a breath. A few days after my Gin School experience, I gave my boyfriend a blind tasting of my own gin and Hendrick’s… and mine won. Boom! – Lucy White,?Editor at CARA Magazine.

Chicken and broccoli crumble from Avoca. There are no words. Go buy it for dinner on the way home from work. It will change your life. – Holly O’Neill,?Staff Writer at IMAGE.ie.

I ate disco brunch at Medley by Andrew Rudd on Fleet Street. €20 per person for an all-you-can-eat lunch, disco tunes, and good wine. – Niamh O’Donoghue,?Junior Social Editor and Content Creator at IMAGE.ie.

I ate in Klaw in Temple Bar and it was delish, and had margaritas at 777 and holy god they’re good. ?Lauren Heskin,?Junior Editor at CARA Magazine.

WE WATCHED?

20th Century Women. “Does it take a man to raise a man?” asks Annette Bening’s Dorothea, a free-wheeling single mum in 1979 Santa Barbara. In the absence of a father figure, she calls upon the help of her house-share tenants and with mixed results – because no one is perfect and everyone is muddling on. Funny, moving, life-affirming, brilliantly acted by a predominantly female cast – what’s not to love? – Lucy White,?Editor at CARA Magazine.

I just started watching Room To Improve on a Sunday with my best friend and apparently I am very late to the game so this could be the worst recommendation of all time, but if you don’t know, now you know. RTE One, 9.30pm, SundayHolly O’Neill,?Staff Writer at IMAGE.ie.

Abstract; Netflix’s newest original series which explores design, photography, architecture, illustration, painting, and set design and if you’re in anyway design-inclined it will blow your mind. ?Niamh O’Donoghue,?Junior Social Editor and Content Creator at IMAGE.ie.

WE LISTENED TO…

I’ve been obsessed with singer Keely Moss (disclaimer: she’s a mate) and her musical collaboration with producer Ingmar Kiang (disclaimer: also a mate). Their band, Session Motts, released a debut single this month, and I CAN’T STOP LISTENING.

Keeley is a FASCINATING person in general. Check out her other labour of love: The Keeley Chronicles, which investigates the tragic case of Inga Hauser. – Eoin Higgins,?Deputy Editor at CARA Magazine.

Hosts Dave Hanratty, Colm O?Regan and Craig Fitzpatrick have had a series of top guests on their NO ENCORE podcast, from Wallis Bird, Girl Band, Holy Fuck and Sage Francis. The podcast is just around the corner from it’s 50th episode, and to mark the occasion, they will be hosting a live recording on March 2nd at The Workman’s Club. We Cut Corners and Bantum are set to perform, as well as sets from Limerick alt-rock heroes windings and the sensational Farah Elle. Tickets are available here, and you can subscribe to NO ENCORE on iTunes here. – Holly O’Neill,?Staff Writer at IMAGE.ie.

The ?Songs to Sing in the Shower? Playlist on Spotify. Your voice may be gone by the time you reach your destination but it’s worth it. – Melanie Mullan, Assistant Editor at CARA Magazine.
