Award season 2016 is officially here, and ahead of the Golden Globes this weekend, stars flocked to the first red carpet outing of the year at the Palm Springs Film Festival. With a high-profile list of winners – from Cate Blanchett to our own Saoirse Ronan, Alicia Vikander, Rooney Mara and Matt Damon – the ceremony gives us the first indicator of who is set to dominate this year’s run of award shows, starting with the Golden Globes and spanning the BAFTAs, People’s Choice Awards and SAG Awards before arriving at the big event – the Oscars on February 28th. The fashion stakes were high, and we weren’t left disappointed – Danish Girl actress Alicia Vikander wore a beautiful pink-spotted Erdem dress, Ronan opted for bold pattern and colour, and wore a dress by Duro Olowu with Yoko London necklaces and Blanchett looked elegant in a pastel custom-made Marc Jacobs gown. We also have to give a special mention to Amber Heard, whose Dolce & Gabbana LBD was divine and Helen Mirren, who looked flawless in a deep-blue maxi skirt by Alberta Ferretti.
