Orla Reynolds? award-winning, space-saving, multi-functional furniture range is finally making its way to market, where a legion of fervent fans are eagerly waiting. Here we get to know more about furniture’s new golden girl ahead of the launch of her popular product at Milan Furniture Fair next week?
Orla Reynolds? aptly titled As If From Nowhere furniture range has been generating a steady buzz ever since it was conceived as part of her graduate project at Dublin Institute of Technology. The sleek bookcase with built-in dining table and chairs is the perfect product for an apartment dweller who loves to host the occasional impromptu dinner party. An innovative design with instant appeal to a generation that lives to multitask, it has gone on to win five awards (and counting) and was recently voted #1 in Space Saving Design by Bored Panda and Buzzfeed.
Orla graduated from DIT in 2012 with a degree in interior and furniture design and immediately went on to set up her own company. A former ballet dancer and set designer, she says that her studio’s vision is drawn from a love of dance and theatre. ?Simple, clever and functional products are created through imagining the home as a stage. Observing how our lives play out within the four walls informs each product created to utilise space, with dual-function products such as the bookcase from the As If From Nowhere range signifying a scene change.?
She has won awards from the Institute of Designers in Ireland and Design and Crafts Council of Ireland for her work, and is currently in the process of bringing her small-space living range to market.?As If From Nowhere will be launched as part of Milan Furniture Fair next week, running from April 14-19.
