Everyone talks about jeans and a nice top… but what shoes are they wearing?
Wide-leg jeans are all the rage these days; an enduring byproduct of the ‘comfort is king’ mentality we all adopted during lockdown, no doubt.
Good news folks, skinny jeans’ reign of terror is finally over. They had us in a death grip from the mid-00s but cutting off circulation is no longer considered cool and the wide-leg denim of 2023 is far more wearable.
A flattering silhouette on just about every body shape, they’re comfortable, chic and make us feel far better about ourselves than the too-tight trousers we used to covet.
The great thing about denim is that it goes with everything but while it might be easy to match a top, blazer or cosy knit with your new blue jeans, deciding on what shoes to wear can be slightly trickier. If you struggle to decide what footwear goes with wide-leg jeans, fear not as we’ve scoured the internet for some of the best options.
With ballet flats
The only shoe that matters these days (at least according to some), ballet flats are here to stay. A great trans-seasonal shoe, they pair really well with wide-leg jeans – making even the most distressed denim look polished.
With sandals
We may be nearing the end of August but we’ll be draining the dregs from summer for at least a few more weeks yet – there is only a very limited window when sandal-wearing is appropriate, so make the most of it.
With heels
Heels aren’t for everyone, but if the occasion warrants it, a strappy sandal or a colourful mule adds just the right pizazz. Go for something with a block heel or a platform to ensure your feet are as comfortable as possible.
With white runners
On the other end of the shoe spectrum, we have white runners. Arguably the most versatile of all, invest in a good pair and you’ll save your feet a world of pain. As good with a skirt or summer dress as they are with wide-leg jeans, white runners are the epitome of functional fashion. Avoid wearing them on rainy days if you want to keep them clean though…
