The countdown is on for the always anticipated; ever-stylish Best Dressed Lady and Best Hat competitions on Ladies Day at the Galway Races on Thursday, 28th July. Sponsored by the luxurious g Hotel & Spa Galway?they have teamed up with popular Irish radio broadcaster and fashionista Louise Duffy as their headline judge for the hugely popular day. The Mayo native will be joined at the racecourse in the judging process for this highly sought after title by Triona Barrett (General Manager of the g Hotel & Spa), Bairbre Power (Fashion Editor with the Irish Independent), Melanie Morris (Editor-in-Chief/Beauty Director at IMAGE Publications) and Mandy Maher (of Catwalk Models), all eager to see the range of style on display.
As far as a setting goes, Galway as an exciting, cultural hub is the perfect backdrop for the day, but all eyes will be on the style. The key to a winning look and above all to enjoying the day is, according to judge Louise Duffy, to be comfortable and confident. “Whether it’s with your headpiece, your hat or your dress, the races are the perfect place to dare, not just on the horses. Don’t be afraid to play with prints and patterns, and mix up your normal racewear with some newer trends.” Fellow judge Bairbre Power adds that it’s all about staying?true to yourself – “I’m always drawn to race day outfits that shout out individuality and originality. Whatever you do, don’t let the outfit WEAR YOU” – while Triona Barrett says that embracing colour is always a good idea. Oh, and keep your outfit clutter-free, advises Melanie Morris.
