We thought it was going to be the year where love triumphed over the splitsville disaster that was 2015. Alas, we’re not even at the end of January and already one of our favourite celebrity couples, whom we’ve always had faith in, are rumoured to have gone their separate ways. Liev Schrieber and Naomi Watts, 47 and 48 respectively, have been together for over ten years and have two gorgeous sons but ‘sources’ tell The Star that they quietly separated back in November. However, if Instagram is anything to go by, all is well in the Schrieber/Watts household, so who would make up such a preposterous story? (On an irrelevant side note, we find it hard to fathom that Watts is approaching her fifties; she looks incredible).
Naturally, the celebrity-couple obsessives among us wanted confirmation on this wild claim, but their reps were quick to say that there was no truth whatsoever to this story. Here’s what The Star said in their print addition.
“A source tells Star that the King Kong actress, 47, quietly called it quits with the father of her children back in November after ten years together. ?Simply put, Naomi and Liev grew apart,? reveals the insider. ?And they’ve decided it’s best for everyone to go their separate ways.? While reps for the pair deny the split, Naomi did not accompany the Ray Donovan star, 48, to the Golden Globes on Jan. 10 – and in December, the couple put their Hamptons hideaway on the market. ?They’re trying to keep things as amicable as possible for the boys,? says the source, noting how the proud parents, who just finished filming the boxing biopic The Bleeder, took Samuel, 7, and Alexander, 8, on a recent family vacation to Australia. ?Their main focus right now is making sure their sons are okay.?
Maybe Naomi had cramps on the night of the Globes, or maybe they don’t need to do everything together because they are independent and self-assured individuals. And maybe they’re selling their house in the Hamptons because they realised they don’t really need more than one or two mansions.
And if they had split and wanted to separate quietly, it’s doubtful that Naomi would keep her Instagram account so active, filled with photos of her and Liev, looking pretty damn loved up.
