Aqua

Perched at the tip of Howth’s West Pier, Aqua’s elegant, light-filled dining room practically dangles over the sea. So you can expect top-notch seafood and plenty of just-caught specials on the menu here. We visited on a bright Sunday for lunch with the kids and were soon tucking into bowls of delicious steamed tiger prawns, achingly fresh Dover sole and pan-fried fillet of salmon – all of which came perfectly cooked and accompanied by lots of lovely extras. Gorgeous as they were, we have to confess to a touch of plate envy when we spotted the baked crab claws at the table next to us. The kids made short work of their fish goujons and chips and after a round of ice creams (for them) and bread and butter pudding with cr’me anglaise (for us), we departed vowing to return. What a perfect way to finish off a Sunday sea walk in Howth.

Top table Go for one by the enormous windows to make the most of the breath-taking sea views.

What to drink They’ve a good list of wines by the glass.

We’ll be back for The baked crab claws and the lobster and crayfish salad.

Don’t leave without Enjoying a drink in the bar, before or after you eat. It’s a gorgeous, cosy little spot with more fab views.

In the know It’s a perfect spot to celebrate something special like Mother’s Day or a communion but book early as we’re not the only ones who think so.
