7 Things To Do This Weekend

What to do this weekend whether you feel like an adventure or you just want to enjoy the weekend from the comfort of your own bed.

EAT

Stay in bed and order from your favourite Dublin restaurants with Deliveroo. Deliveroo celebrated their first year in business this week. The delivery service will deliver from restaurants that normally don’t provide that service in an average of 32 minutes. Why not order Klaw to your kitchen, or Boojum in bed or cronuts from Kr’st Bakery to your couch? Too much alliteration?

GET EDUCATED

The National Gallery of Ireland is currently home to the?Leonardo da Vinci: Ten Drawings From The Royal Collection?exhibit for the next ten weeks. Family workshops, drop-in drawing workshops, talks and film screenings will be available until the 17th of July.

Check out the film screening of Exhibition on Screen: Leonardo from the National Gallery, London (12.30pm, 8th of May) or go to a talk (3pm, 8th of May) on Leonardo da Vinci: Ten Drawings from the Royal Collection with Martin Clayton, Head of Prints and Drawings from the Royal Collection Trust.

FRIEZE1

Follow Frieze Art Fair on Instagram for more cool pictures like the one above, showing photographer Spencer Lowell taking photos of The Panorama of the City of New York. The Panorama was a campaign with Frieze New York and Queens Museum and was built by a team of more than 100 people over the course of three years.

LISTEN TO

The Podcast With The Good Hair from the podcast NO ENCORE. Headstuff Music Editor Dave Hanratty and co-hosts Colm O’Regan of Hot Press and Newstalk‘s Craig Fitzpatrick catch up on the goings-on of the music world every week.

This week they reflect on the death of Prince and discuss Twin Peaks, but mainly these three hilarious white guys lowkey fangirl over the black female empowerment album that is Beyonc?’s Lemonade and give it the best album rating they have given an album so far on their podcast.

READ

Lupita Nyong’o’s Lenny Letter. If you don’t know about the Lenny Letter (I’m newly initiated), it brings a weekly dose of happiness and intelligence from wonderful women to your inbox. It’s a twice weekly newsletter – full issues on Tuesdays and an interview on Fridays – created by Lena Dunham and her Girls co-creator Jenni Konner. As we know from Girls and?the?podcast Women Of The Hour, Lena Dunham loves to use her spotlight to highlight?iconic female figures in both the arts and politics.

In the Lenny Letter, you’ll find?celebrity interviews, how-tos, short stories, horoscopes and first person essays by guest contributors. Stories include original, commissioned art, like the illustration of Kesha?above by fashion designer and illustrator?Stefania Tejada.

In this week’s Lenny Letter, Lupita’s essay – a response to a journalist who asked her, ?Why would such a big star choose to do such a small play?? – is essential reading and has been labelled as “one more example of Hollywood failing at diversity”.?

If you want to spend hours of your weekend blowing your mind, previous Lenny Letters can be read online and there’s so many; Julianne Moore writes about when gun safety became personal to her, the First Lady Michelle Obama writes on the importance of global girls’ education and there’s an interview with Hillary Clinton where she talks about being terrified of losing her identity by marrying Bill Clinton – she turned him down twice before she agreed to marry him.

My?favourite is the first person piece by Creative Director of J.Crew and all round badass Jenna Lyons, on the skirt she created that changed her life when she was a young girl at school crippled with a lack of self-confidence over the genetic disorder?Incontinentia Pigmenti which left her scarred all over her body with conical teeth and hair loss.

Jessica Knoll, author of the New York Times bestseller Luckiest Girl Alive?admitted publically for the first time in her Lenny Letter that the rape which happened to the protagonist of her novel was not a work of fiction – this Lenny Letter?hasn’t strayed far from the peripheral of ‘my thoughts since I read it. Go read it right now.?
