7 Standout Performances Fom The Super Bowl Halftime Show

7 Standout Performances Fom The Super Bowl Halftime Show

It’s Super Bowl weekend! While it’s meant to be about football, some of us care far more about the Super Bowl ads and halftime performances over all else. This year, Coldplay are doing the honours, but at the moment, the buzz is around the fact that Beyonc? will feature and treat us to a reported dance-off, which we assume will be epic in nature.

Ahead of tomorrow night’s antics (it airs at 11.30pm on BBC1 for night owls who wish to watch), we’re taking a look back at seven of the best-ever performances from a time gone by. There was the time Beyonc? owned it, Katy Perry with Left Shark and that Michael Jackson show, which definitely warrants a mention. Have a look at the others below. Which was your favourite?

1. Katy Perry And Left Shark (2015)

Pop superstar Katy Perry’s 2015 12-minute show was quite spectacular. There was set changes, four costume changes and guest appearances from legends Lenny Kravitz and Missy Elliot.?However, Perry and co were completely overshadowed by the dodgy dancing of a dancer in a shark suit to her left on stage. He clearly hadn’t a clue what he was doing but we loved it, and he quite rightfully became an internet sensation afterwards.

2. Beyonc? (2013)

Beyonc?’s 2013 performance didn’t create any controversy, but it was completely amazing. And there was a mini Destiny’s Child Reunion.

3. U2 (2002)

It was just five months after 9/11 when Bono took to the stage at the halftime show, and the world was still reeling from the tragic events.?Millions of viewers were moved to tears by the band’s performance which was a tribute to the victims of the terrorist attack. They they sang Beautiful Day, MLK and Where the Streets Have No Name and dedicated all songs to those that had lost their lives.

4. Michael Jackson (1993)

This was one of the most-watched TV events in history at the time and the late singer’s incredible performance set the scene for his now famous stage shows that followed. Just look at him go.

5. Bruce Springsteen (2009)

No fuss or dramatic set changes, just the legend doing what he does best.

6. 90s flashback (2001)

This one featured all the major stars of the nineties: N’Sync (those outfits), Britney Spears (legend) and Aerosmith, thus this is more than deserving of a mention.

7. Janet Jackson And Justin Timberlake (2004)

This one always gets mentioned because usually, it’s the first moment everyone remembers when they think of the Superbowl. The actual performance was decent enough, but that’s not what people spoke about. Jackson’s?’wardrobe malfunction’ as it was dubbed by Justin Timberlake went down in history and #nipplegate was born. The incident (which was completely staged) resulted in millions of complaints and CBS having to pay a $40,000 fine.
