Most of us have earmarked this weekend to put up our tree, but in between decorating and untangling the lights, make sure to pop in to some of these Christmassy events to keep spirits high
Joyful, joyful
Nothing says Christmas quite like hearing a few carols and the Guinness Choir is one of the best when it comes to Christmas crooning. Their annual concert will be held in St Patrick’s Cathedral in Dublin on Sunday 8th December at 7pm. You can expect a selection of well-loved carols as well as French, Russian and Spanish songs. The special guest on the night is the amazing Mary Coughlan. A great way to kick off the holiday season. Tickets available at Event Brite but are likely to sell out quickly.
Dreaming of a green Christmas
Sustainably-minded? Ethically-aware? Tired of the usual gift tat? We’ve found the market for you this Christmas. Showcasing over 30 of Ireland’s conscious creators and makers providing an alternative to Christmas consumerism, the Sustainable Christmas market is being held over the next few days at D-Light Studios, at 46 North Great Clarence Street, Dublin 1.
Every year Ireland produces 83 thousand tonnes of packaging waste — much of it unrecyclable. At the sustainable market you will find companies like Celtic Fusion Design’s ethical high quality designer wear with a Celtic inspiration, Jump The Hedges recycled yoga and fanny bags, Tango! Vintage Clothing, IMARA earth conscious brand and creator of the hag (hat/bag), Bear With Nature handmade natural skin and hair care and much more. Native Events says it makes a thorough investigation of each trader’s supply chain to ensure products sold are sourced sustainably and produced ethically. Plastic products will not be permitted.
The market will run today, 6th December from 4pm until 8pm. Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th December from 11am until 8pm. Pick up some wonderfully creative and mindfully sourced products to gift to loved ones. Best of all, it is completely free to attend.
Walking in the air
This weekend, there is a magical family event taking place at the Bord Gais Energy Theatre. Raymond Brigg’s film, The Snowman has captivated children for years, now the live score will be played by the Irish Philharmonic Orchestra. Children are invited to dress up in Christmas garb for the event which takes place Friday, Saturday and Sunday of this weekend. Shay Byrne will narrate the story of James and the flying snowman as you watch the film on the big screen. Expect some seasonal favourites too!
