Varadkar to help launch €1bn peace funding for NI
The Taoiseach will help launch a €1bn fund to support peace and reconciliation in Northern Ireland during a visit to Belfast today. Leo Varadkar will have talks with European Commission Vice President Maroš Šef?ovi? and Northern Secretary Chris Heaton-Harris, who will also attend. He will be accompanied by Minister for Public Expenditure Paschal Donohoe. Together, they will launch the EU-backed PEACEPLUS programme – to support peace and prosperity across Northern Ireland and the border counties – to 2027.

RTÉ spent €200,000 on blanket advertising for the failed Toy Show The Musical, on top of the high-profile free advertising available to the broadcaster on its own TV and radio stations. The figure includes more than €28,000 paid to media agencies who placed adverts for the now-infamous musical, which lost RTÉ more than €2.2m.

More than 850 posts are currently vacant in Tusla, including senior positions at national and local level. Among the vacant posts are 340 social work roles, 244 social care positions, and 162 administration jobs. It comes as the services of Tusla are under growing pressure, with the child and family agency saying the war in Ukraine and “other complex issues facing children and families in Ireland today”, have led to increased demand for services and support.

Spanish FA president Luis Rubiales has resigned after he kissed a player following the country’s Women’s World Cup win. Mr Rubiales, who was suspended by football’s governing body FIFA over the kiss, said in an interview on Piers Morgan Uncensored on TalkTV that he was stepping down because he “cannot continue my work”.

Rescuers in Morocco have used their bare hands to dig for survivors, more than 48 hours after a powerful earthquake claimed more than 2,000 lives. Mountain villages near the epicentre lie in ruins and many local people are desperately awaiting aid. The Moroccan government says it has accepted aid from four countries so far – Britain, Spain, Qatar and the UAE. Canada PM Justin Trudeau stuck in India after plane breaks down
Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau and his entire delegation have been forced to extend their stay in New Delhi for the G20 summit by an extra day after his aircraft broke down, Canadian officials confirmed. Trudeau arrived in India for the meeting of the leaders of 20 leading economies on Friday.
