Penn Badgley and Cardi B just won this week’s Most Unlikely Friendship Award

How exactly did the ‘Gossip Girl’ alum and rapper become close you might ask? Why Twitter of course!

Penn Badgley and Cardi B just won this week’s Most Unlikely Friendship Award

This week in weird yet delightful internet goings-on, it seems that Cardi B has been thrilled to find a stan in Netflix’s You star Penn Badgley. While the two don’t exactly make sense on paper, on Twitter, it makes for a perfect pairing. Don’t believe me? Pop on either of their Twitter pages right now and you’ll find Cardi’s avatar is a pic of Badgley’s character Joe Goldberg, and a quick gander at Badgley’s profile and you’ll find a blue-haired Cardi instead.

So how did this mutual fawning begin? While attending a promo event for You in Manilla, the Philippines, Badgley began talking about how awkward he feels using social media and how that awkwardness can often appear as a lack of authenticity. Saying that he really admires people who have the confidence to not overthink social media too much and are able to portray their real selves online. “Cardi B is a great example of that… she has an incredibly authentic relationship with [social media] and that’s why people like her so much”.

Tagged in a video of the compliment online, the “WAP” singer immediately responded, well, very authentically. “OOOOMMFFFGGGGGG HE KNOWS ME !!! OMMMGGGG!!!!!!Yoooo like I’m famous famous”. In fairness, Badgley is not wrong, Cardi B is so good on social media that everyone immediately knows you put the emphasis on that first “famous” without the necessity for italics.

In response, Badgley was all of us, stuck for words and only able to muster an “I –” in reply. Knowing that a picture says a thousand words, he opted instead to put her as his profile pic instead and, recognising the significance of the gesture (because she’s an aforementioned social media pro), Cardi duly reciprocated in kind.

So what’s next? *Please say a cameo in season four of You, please say a cameo in season four of You*…
