Inquest verdict delivered after 24-year-old mum died from sepsis a week after giving birth

The inquest into the death of 24-year-old mother Karen McEvoy told of 'many missed opportunities' to diagnose her fatal infection in the week after she had given birth to a healthy baby girl. She left behind her 3 children and partner, who has said he 'hopes other women's lives will be saved'.

A jury in the inquest of Karen McEvoy, aged 24, today returned a verdict of medical misadventure after hearing two days of evidence in Kildare Coroner’s Court sitting in Athy. Ms McEvoy died at Naas Hospital on Christmas Day 2018,  seven days after giving birth to her third child, baby girl Ruby at the Coombe Hospital in Dublin.
