Family Business

If you haven’t heard of The Muff Liquor Company yet, it is a family business based in Muff, Co Donegal, where the company has been distilling potato-based spirits since the early 20th century.

Their story starts when Greencastle native Philip McClenaghan farmed and ran a fairly popular potato businesses, but he was soon possessed by what his mother would have called “a little bit of divilment” and began experimenting with alcohol recipes using his distillation process to create his own, delicious poitin. It wasn’t long before he had locals frequently stopping by for a jar of his finely crafted spirit.

Fast forward to modern day, and his granddaughter Laura M Bonner has picked up the family baton. Inspired by her grandad, she founded The Muff Liquor Company and helped grow the brand into the international success it is today.

Award-winning taste

Both The Muff Liquor Company’s homegrown, craft gin and vodka has gone on to win ‘gold’ in multiple awards in blind tasting competitions and the Vodka Masters competition. While most premium spirits are only distilled five times, Muff Gin and Muff Vodka are unique for taking the refining process one step further. The potato-based spirits are stilled six times and made with natural botanicals, such as mandarin, lemon and rosemary.
