Here’s what’s in the team IMAGE summer holiday shopping basket

From haircare and shades to sandals and swimsuits, team IMAGE are beginning their summer holiday shopping — here’s what’s in our baskets…

Sarah Gill, Staff Writer

This summer, for me, is all about camping — so a tent is an obvious necessity. Similarly, in a bid to become a fully fledged sea swimmer, a good sturdy swimsuit will be at the bottom of every bag, just in case the opportunity presents itself.

I’ve been on the prowl for a pair of chunky sandals that can take me from strolling along the prom right on into the beer garden, and I think this strappy silver pair are absolutely perfect. For my summer read, it’s got to be Christine Anne Foley’s Bodies, which is already been heralded as the It Girl book of the year.

I recently bought these striped trousers from Arket and have worn them any chance I can get – they’re so light and comfortable, ideal for warmer weather. I’ve paired them with a cardigan for recent Irish temperatures, but would be ideal with a vest or oversized shirt in hotter climes. In terms of beauty products, the little appetite I have for blow-drying my hair goes out the window in the summer, so I’m keen to try JVN’s Air Dry Cream in the hopes of air-dried tresses that look beachy rather than frizzy. I also always pack something for insect bites as someone who reacts quite severely to them, and I’ve been recommended Science of Skin Solution For Bites in this handy size for travelling.

In an ideal world – one where I have endless amounts of money and a walk-in wardrobe Carrie Bradshaw could only dream of – I’d be buying this Prada tote bag ahead of upcoming summer escapades. Sadly, I have Champagne tastes but a prosecco budget so this Mango one is going to have to suffice. I also love these spéaclaí gréine from Le Specs… one can never have too many pairs of sunglasses, especially if you’re prone to losing them like me.

Trends come and go but what I always find myself reaching for in the shops when the summer holidays roll around are maxi dresses. It’s always a great feeling to just throw on a light, colourful maxi dress when you’re on holiday (particularly if you’re somewhere hot) and ta-da! you’re done and looking stylish for the evening. I tend to opt for lighter fabrics like linen, but I’m also partial to a silk dress as they make you feel so elegant while also feeling incredibly comfortable.

All I have to do is look at the sun, and I am sunburnt. So, this summer I am going to have Sculpted by Aimee’s Sun Mist Face and Body on hand at all times. A few years ago I treated myself to a pair of Doc Martens sandal dupes, and after three years of love, the sole of one has split in half. Devastated, but they owe me nothing! I’ve decided to treat myself to this pair of Doc Martens sandals, which will hopefully stand the test of time, and the test of many summers to come! I am adding this Von Dutch cap straight into my ASOS basket. I love a cap during the summertime. Perfect to throw on, whether it is to sightsee, to go for a quick walk, or to lounge around the pool. A cute cap in your bag, and you are sorted for all of the above.

When packing for my summer holidays, I focus more on accessories than clothing, as I always find that I only wear half of my suitcase! Ahead of my holidays next month, I’ve been eyeing the Arizona Love Apache Jewel Denim Pearl sandals (as I only wear flats on holidays!), the Zo&Co Flower Pendant Pearl necklace and the Aoife Mullane Design Ivory Layla Bow-detailed claw clip. These three pieces will elevate any day or night look.

Books and Birkenstocks are definitely my holiday essentials. At the moment I am loving Portia MacIntosh’s books and her newest release The Suite Life is being saved for my next trip! They are lovely, light reads and are the perfect books for reading by the pool! A recent purchase I made for my last trip was a pair of white patent Birkenstocks with gold detailing and they are divine. They go with every single outfit whether you are in the mood for casual or dressy!

I’ve a summer holiday coming up and here’s what is at the top of my shopping list:

Ella & Jo’s new Hydrate & Glow Gradual Moisturiser – I’ve heard amazing things and I’m dying to try it out myself. I’m not great at applying self-tan so this seems like an easy win for a light, summer glow!

Rare Beauty’s Soft Pinch Tinted Lip Oil – My sister got this last month and hasn’t shut up about how amazing it is. It has a lovely pigment, plumps your lips and most importantly, it isn’t sticky so you don’t have to worry about your hair getting blown into it throughout the day.

M&S x Sienna Miller’s Pure Cotton Lace-Up Detail Trousers – The latest collab from M&S and Sienna Miller, I recently tried on these white jeans and they fit so well! I love the lace-up detail on the back (which accentuates all the right curves!) and they’re nice and lightweight for summer.

The Bee Sting by Paul Murray – I’ve had this book on my summer reading list for ages since multiple people recommended it. It’s been called ‘a tragicomic tour de force about family, fortune, and the struggle to be a good person when the world is falling apart’. Can’t wait to dig in by the pool!

Marlene Wessels, Art Director

I can see myself floating along in this v-cut satin dress all summer long. I am in love with the bold print and the loose cut. Being Satin it is soft, airy, and breathable and the long sleeves are perfect for the evenings when the temperature just drops that little bit.

I have always been a fan of Clark shoes for their comfort and quality. I love a slip in for summer and these Alda Glide sandals ticks all the boxes.

A linen tee is essential and goes with everything. Even though I do love a sparkling white tee, I tend to go for black because it is easy to dress up and down and is a low-maintenance colour.

A large tote bag is easy to pack, doubles up as a beach bag, shopper and hand bag. I like both the plain black version and this fun green stripe version that we featured in the Summer issue of Image magazine.

Topshop’s floral mules look like if Disney made high heels for adults. I have planned my whole summer around them but no one will be more delighted with them than my nieces, who love to play dress up with my wardrobe and try on all my sunglasses and totter around in my shoes and go home wearing all my jewellery. This Astrid & Miyu initial pendant necklace is stalking me on the Internet – as is this Never Fully Dressed cardigan, which is taking up all of my thoughts. I have unwittingly grown a pretty elaborate selection of strange trousers the warmer the weather becomes, so this Sandro knit crochet style pair are very important to me.
