Greta Gerwig: Her 12 Best Cool Girl Looks

Actresses who tend to play Hollywood on their own indie drama-comedy terms have that little something a red carpet of Calvin Klein Oscar-gunning starlets are missing out on. While we love Reese Witherspoon and think she’s a constant win in her fitted gowns, her styling is emblematic of a world where sleek stylists reign. When we think of actresses whose wardrobes always draw us in, names like Chlo? Sevigny, Parker Posey, Lizzy Caplan and Jenny Slate speak to our soul. If they have a stylist, it’s someone who works with their personality, as opposed to various contracts.

However, if there were ever a queen of cool-girl styling, it would be Greta Gerwig, the star of Frances Ha and the in-cinemas-now Mistress America.

Here are ten reasons to make her your Pinterest sacred heart.

We are living in the era of over-using the term swit-swoo, but that is a swit-swoo worthy silhouette on Ms. Gerwig as she chats with her boyfriend and frequent co-worker Noah Baumbach. From the front, this Balenciaga dress was a bit yawn, but this angle promotes serial sideways walking.

We love this inky midriff-baring look that Gerwig wore to a recent premiere for Mistress America. Those frayed edges – the only time our mothers would approve.

Shorthaired girls can braid too, as Greta proves here. While fishtail plaits are over YouTube like a rash, there’s something far more charming about this scandi set-up.

If you’re going to go for a graphic dress, go for Proenza Schouler or go home.

Also, when you’re invited to a Fashion Week Proenza Schouler show, it helps to not street style it up. Top knot, long indoors jacket, keeping true to your low-key roots = what we strive for every morning.

This Sundance Institute Celebration Benefit ensemble is safe, but it’s also pretty fabulous in its celebration of the kempt aesthetic.

Greta does trousers too and when she does they’re tailored better than ours.

She does brunette and luncheon dressing very well too.

This Brock Collection white shirt dress is the ideal summer evening luck and can we please have this in our size for all the impromptu barbeques no one is throwing.

Burnt orange perfection. This is 1980s Shirley Conran adult woman dressing.

More orange. Awkward shape but with such great textures we think it works.

THAT WHITE TUXEDO BAND OF OUTSIDERS JUMPSUIT.

2014 on top. Prohibition after-party below the neck.

Mistress America is in cinemas now.
