Four weekend dresses for an instant new-season wardrobe update

Four weekend dresses for an instant new-season wardrobe update

The season of sartorial change is upon us (yes, that is the sound of rain you’re hearing right now). While you may still be enjoying the summer sales, the fashion posse is gearing up for what’s next to come.

For AW18, I’m fantasising about punchy colours, patterned and wild motifs, exaggerated collars and cuffs and an exciting element of punk-rock glamour. Don’t worry, summer hasn’t left yet, but with new-season stock in plentiful supply on the high-street right now, there’s no time like the present.

If you’re ready to hang up your dainty, floral-print spaghetti strap dress for another year (make no mistake though; florals aren’t going anywhere for AW18), take a look at four gorgeous weekend-approved dresses that you can buy right now from Mango, Topshop, H&M and more.

Delicate dots at Mango

Let the dainty, dotted little motif take you through the night from cocktail hour to the morning after. Pair this feminine flowing dress with a tailored blazer or a cool white T-shirt underneath. According to the ‘in’ crowd on Instagram, polka dots are officially happening for AW18.

Oui oui Paree at H&M

Puff-sleeved shirt dress, €69.99 at H&M

Let your collar do the talking while you sip on brunch bellini’s in this versatile shirt-dress from H&M. Falling at calf-length, the contrasting piping delicately outlines the silhouette of the dress (which is naturally relaxed a la French style). Wear over leather trousers or dark denim and a punchy classic red lipstick.

Vibrant and warm at Topshop

A thigh-grazing length hasn’t been at the forefront of fashion trends in some time, but was noticed for next season at Chanel, Alexander Wang and Balenciaga. Leave it to Topshop to create its own high-street rendition. I’ve fallen for this striking emerald wrap-style dress  because of its adaptability. A Saturday night wrap dress can in an instant become a loose-fitting, comfortable Sunday afternoon shirt paired with jeans, a T-shirt and a pair of trainers. Though maybe only opt for orange shoes if you are after a very patriotic look.

Punk perfection at Zara

Metallic thread dress with rings, €59.95 at Zara

Your favourite band are in town and this metallic ring dress is the perfect option to mosh the night away in.  Switch up your all-black eveningwear formula for shiny, catch-the-light metallics that change colour as you shake it up on the dancefloor. Metallics of all colours will have prominence for the next few months (as seen at Dries Van Noten, Lemaire and Chanel).
