‘Dior And I’ To Screen In Dublin

Dior and I is the fashion movie you don’t realise you’ve been waiting for.

In 2012, Raf Simons was appointed creative director of Dior, a role previously held by giants of fashion such as John Galliano and Yves Saint Laurent. It was an announcement that came in the wake of the Galliano scandal, signaling Dior was ready to go on. It was a career move that intrigued serious fashion watchers. Would the clean cut Simons, famous for his menswear, prove a natural fit for the brand that defined the latter half of the twentieth century? Would he be able to follow Galliano, whose shows had become pieces of theatre on a par with Karl Lagerfeld’s Grand Palais performances?

In fact, Simons first turned down director Fr’d?ric Tcheng’s request to capture his first few months at the helm. Thankfully he relented, and we now have a piece of fashion history hitting cinema screens tomorrow.

The documentary Dior and I covers his debut haute couture collection for the French house, taking us behind the scenes of how an international atelier delivers stunning collections bi-annually. The trailer is an intense affair, capturing Simons first day as the boss, and how his requests and efforts to make his mark affect the seamstresses.

Could this be the tensest female-focused thriller since Gone Girl?

Dior and I is showing in the Lighthouse Cinema in Dublin’s Smithfield Square from the Friday, 27th March.
