That means tomorrow is Friday, but also that today is dedicated to loving independent fashion stores around the country. A cause any person with impeccable taste, dear reader, can get behind. There’s even a hashtag – #FIDAY.

Fashion Independent’s Day is the brainchild of frockadvisor founders Brendan Courtney and Sonya Lennon. In case you’ve been living under a rock, frockadvisor is the fashion app that connects fashion lovers with their favorite independent boutiques. That makes Fashion Independent’s Day an appropriate venture for all concerned. This is the second time boutiques have joined with Frockadvisor to raise awareness of shops that deserve your sartorial support.

So, to join in the fun make some time to visit your favourite independent boutique to see how they’re marking the momentous occasion. Sure, treat yourself to a payday treat while you’re at it. If you are a frockadvisor user you make get a few incentives? It is free, after all. (See here for more information and have a look at a video about last year’s celebration)

In a world where commerce is dominated by big names and URLs. It’s nice to spread the love to people who make it their life’s mission to offer you a shopping experience that is unique and tailored. Why have the Oreo cookie when you can a decadent nutty homemade brownie instead?

This year #FIDAY is adding something different to the mix, with its first Fashion Grand Prix. Five of Ireland’s most influential fashion crusaders (Annmarie O’Connor, Courtney Smith, Lorna Weightman, Ciara O Doherty & Anouska Proetta Brandon) will be racing across Ireland, trying to visit as many independent stores around the country as possible. There will be selfie taking. And whoever trends highest on social media is the winner.
