There was a time when I was against the very idea of a puffa (puff, puffer, padded coats, etc) jacket. They swamped my petite frame in such an abundance of material that I would quickly dismiss them, forgetting their most important function: to protect one from the bitter Irish weather (that has hit us the past week without warning). And when the temperature dips to freezing point, those puffas (the more of them, the better) start to look a whole lot more appealing. Yes, they are a nineties?trend that’s made a comeback, and yes, they are essentially a variation of luxe sportswear, but our Fashion Director Marie Kelly prefers to describe them as “wearable duvets,” which, is a necessary wardrobe staple for us all as we come into winter. You can make a statement with an oversized coat and if you’re worried about getting lost in one, opt for a coat that’s nipped at the waist – as well as the sleek silhouette, it gives the jacket a more feminine edge.
Scroll below for our ten puffa jacket picks – to suit a variety of different budgets – and be sure to wrap up as it gets colder outside.
