Daniel Martin on his life in beauty

by Holly O'Neill
10th Mar 2025

Daniel Martin, celebrity make-up artist and Global Director of Artistry at Tatcha shares his beauty must-haves with Holly O’Neill.

Three products I always have in my make-up bag are Tatcha The Dewy Skin Cream, €79, Tatcha Silk Sunscreen SPF50, €74.75 and an eyelash curler.

My one desert island essential is lip balm.

A product that’s always on my nightstand is CBD gummies and Magnesium Glycinate capsules to help me relax and sleep.

To me, being healthy means being happy in your own skin.

The first thing I put on my skin in the morning is water to wash my face and my favourite cleanser, Tatcha Gentle Rice Polish Foaming Enzyme Powder, €75.

The last beauty-related thing I do before bed is apply a serum to treat my hyperpigmentation. I love using Tatcha’s The Brightening Serum, €99, after The Essence, €120, to see how balanced and even toned the skin gets upon application. The Brightening Eye Cream, €73.60, also works well underneath the heaviest concealer because it prevents creasing into the fine lines around the eyes.

The best beauty advice I ever received was to always wash your face before bed.

My lifelong lipstick love is MAC Ruby Woo Retro Matte Lipstick, €26, and I love Makeup Forever Artist Color Longwear Lip Pencils, €20.

The foundation I always use is NARS Light Reflecting Advanced Skincare Foundation, €55.

Everyone should try meditating.

I’ve always wanted to wear nail polish on my toes but I don’t like how polish feels on them.

The beauty appointment I never miss is a pedicure for a natural-looking groomed appearance.

The first beauty product I ever bought was Dippity Do Hair Gel in the 80s.

The worst beauty mistake I ever made was perming my hair in the 80s. It burned my scalp like crazy and I’m convinced that’s why I have no hair now.

My signature scent is Casa De Coca Parfum Chasqui, 50ml, €130.

The first cologne I loved was Issey Miyake L ’Eau D’Issey Pour Homme, 40ml, €58.

I never travel without my headphones.

I take my make-up off with Tatcha Indigo Cleansing Balm, €46.

My weird make-up hack is Elmer’s Glue to lay down eyebrows for a long-lasting red carpet look.

The last beauty item I bought was Haus Labs Color Fuse Glassy Blush Balm Stick, €34.

I feel most beautiful when my skin is clear of acne.

I would really like to try flamenco dancing.

My go-to eye cream is Tatcha Silk Peony Melting Eye Cream, €80.50.

Something I always make time for is Pilates.

My three current obsessions are making gluten-free banana bread, watching British television and plumquots, a plum apricot hybrid fruit.

The first thing I do every morning is stretch.

My morning routine is coffee, coffee, coffee before anything!

My favourite moisturiser and hand cream is Tatcha Indigo Overnight Repair €98.90 and Kit Skin Kind Urban Hand Salve, €22.

I can’t go to work without my phone, unfortunately.

The self-care tool I use every day is my toothbrush.

The best part of my day is eating!

My favourite mascara and brow products are Lancôme Définicils Mascara, €36 and Chanel Boy de Chanel Eyebrow Pencil, €43.

The most challenging part of my day is when to switch off from work.

I switch off from work by listening to music.

Before I go to bed, I’ll read. After a long work week, I destress by downloading music and creating playlists.

The most reflective moment in the day is right before bed.

The one person, place or thing guaranteed to give me joy is spending time on the couch watching British comedies with my husband with our cat Weezy nestled between us.

The best make-up brushes are from REPHR, from €13.
