Angela Burke: A week in my wardrobe

by Edaein OConnell

Angela Burke is a qualified Career Coach who blends practical business insight with evidence-based coaching to help people take ownership of their careers. She works with organisations on leadership development, employee engagement and culture change, and is a strong advocate for a strategic, research-led approach to workplace wellbeing. Beyond her work, Angela is creating a life centred on peace, joy and love and is also a devout lover of fashion. This week, she’s opening her wardrobe to share her favourite outfits and the stories behind them.

MONDAY

If I’m working from home and not on camera, you’ll find me in leggings and a fleece, but this particular Monday called for a nice outfit. I adore this time of year as it gives my ‘all year round’ autumnal colour scheme the stage. I’ve really started embracing each season in recent years and not rushing from one to another, so I feel this particular outfit gives a nice nod to autumn, yet welcomes a wintery Christmas touch with the subtle red and black tartan pattern. I picked up the pinafore in the Zara sale a few years ago, the blouse is from Primark and my new suede black boots are Carl Scarpa.

As Monday evening came around, it called for a quick turnaround as I was heading into town to the Lewis Capaldi Concert, which Universal Music Ireland so kindly invited me to.

I was so devastated to miss out on tickets when they went live, as his music was in my ears a lot in recent years as I navigated a tough separation, so it was really special to be there for his comeback show in Ireland. It almost felt like the comeback for both Lewis and me, having come out the other side, stronger than ever! For my evening outfit, I leaned into a tonal rust and tan colour scheme. My dress is years old from Penneys, I cut the label off my knit, so I can’t recall where that’s from, and my tweed blazer is about seven years old from Zara. I love playing around with different textures and always find adding tweed to a knit gives such an elevated look.

TUESDAY

On Tuesday, I was delivering a workshop to the Image Business Club members at their co-working day. I wanted to feel confident, while also feeling like me, which I find helps me with my mission of speaking from the heart. I also wanted to capture some new speaking content for my socials, so I decided to give this beautiful, rust coloured suit and leopard print heels from Zara another wear.

WEDNESDAY

Wednesday’s outfit called for comfy and confident for work, and ‘glassy’ (glam classy) for a PR event in town afterwards. Firstly, I wore my black Levi jeans, navy & Other Stories cardi, Celine belt (it’s reversible, so I can wear the nude colour during the summer),  black H&M loafers, my Mulberry bag and Dolce & Gabbana sunnies.

It’s always a little nerve-wracking going to PR events on your own, so in the evening I opted for a brown tonal look for familiarity, given brown is my favourite colour! So, I paired this beautiful, brown waistcoat from H&M with a long brown skirt from Primark. My leopard print heels are Zara, and I finished the look with this new bag I picked up in H&M recently – I love how the dark brown tone of the bag complements the whole tonal look.

THURSDAY

I’ve been making a conscious effort to make more time for things that inspire, educate and invest in my personal and professional growth. With this in mind, Thursday meant dressing not only for work but for a talk after too. I wore this dress on a previous TV appearance on Virgin Media’s ‘Morning AM’ show back in 2023, and my DM’s went crazy for it, so I’ve been dying to get another wear out of it. It’s the perfect autumnal dress, in my opinion, and no one believes me when I tell them that it’s from Penneys! I love finding pieces in Penneys that I know I can style with more high-quality pieces to create a classy, high-end look.

FRIDAY

I love giving myself a little casual Friday. My black jeans are Levis, my belt is Celine, my shirt is Penneys, my Leopard print waistcoat is from Dunnes Stores, and for shoes wore my trusty Nine West heels.

On this Friday evening, I headed into town to catch up with a pal, and we popped into an Irish music event. Tonight’s outfit featured a beautiful Aran jumper that my mother hand-knit for me about 17 years ago! My mother is my best friend and the kindest person you will meet. She’s also an incredibly talented knitter. Our very special, late aunt Rosey taught my mum how to knit when she was a child, and it’s something my mum tried to teach me when I was younger. I really must get her to give me a refresher course so her wonderful gift remains in the family, although nobody could ever replicate her incredible attention to detail and care. I’ve paired the jumper with a skirt I’ve had for years that doesn’t have a label, my suede brown boots from Penneys, and my cream ‘Coach’ bag, which my sister kindly brought home from Boston to me.

SATURDAY

After a morning of hobbies, I spent a few hours Saturday afternoon recording content for my new programme ‘The Career Reset’. I always want my content to be informative, inspirational, soulful and aesthetic, so I opted for an off white pinstripe suit to give professional, yet calming vibes for my clients. My suit is from one of Penneys’ Edit collections, my knit is from Zara, my shoes are Adidas Sambas, and my bag is H&M.

SUNDAY

During the weekends, I love spending as much time as possible outdoors in nature. I design my life with peace, love and joy in mind, and nature really lights up all three within me! I headed to Howth for a pier walk, a dip in the sea and a chat with a pal. Do we need anything more on a Sunday? I think not! As you can see, I’m wrapped up cosy in my Ganni hat, Under Armour rust coloured leggings, New Balance runners, Zara coat and my Dolce & Gabbana sunnies.
