The 2025 wine trends to pour and explore, according to an expert

by Michelle Lawlor
30th Jan 2025

Sustainable wine, minimal intervention wines, mindful drinking; Michelle Lawlor, one of Ireland’s leading wine experts and the owner of The Nude Wine Co, takes us through the 2025 wine trends to try.

Wine reflects the times we live in and 2025 is shaping up to be a year of changes. It’s all about less fuss, more thoughtfulness and the spirit of adventure when it comes to what’s in your glass. This year, we’ll be drinking smarter, being kinder to the planet and having a bit of fun along the way. Whether you’re trying a new grape, hosting a relaxed dinner party, or seeking out a sustainable bottle, wine is about connection and joy. If you’re a long-time wine lover or just starting out, these trends will have you reaching for something fresh and meaningful to pour. At The Nude Wine Co., we’re all about making wine fun and approachable, so here’s what’s going to be big this year.

Entertaining at Home

Gone are the days of overpriced meals in overrated restaurants. Staying in is the new going out and 2025 is all about bringing the fun back home. Think relaxed dinner parties with friends, themed tasting nights and exploring exciting food and wine pairings. It’s about connection, conversation and creating memories over a good bottle. Grab a few interesting wines, lay out some cheese and crackers and let the magic happen. There’s no need to overcomplicate it.

A Wine to Try: Looking for a party-pleaser wine? Try the Lume from Marche in Italy. It’s the best white we can find on the market at this price and what’s even better is that everyone always loves it. It is unoaked, dry and fruity and will delight Sauvignon, Pinot Grigio and Albarino lovers!

Conscious Consumption: Sustainability and Minimal Intervention

The wine buzzwords for 2025? Mindful drinking and sustainable choices. In terms of eco-friendly choices, we as wine drinkers and consumers in general, are thinking beyond the bottle. Organic, biodynamic and sustainably farmed wines are becoming everyday staples, not just special occasion splurges. Plus, producers are moving towards lighter packaging and regenerative farming practices that protect the planet.

Minimal intervention wines are another conscious consumption choice du jour. Forget over-processed bottles. Consumers are loving wines that are as close to the vineyard as possible. Think unfiltered, unfined and brimming with personality—these are wines that tell a story of where they come from.

A Wine to Try: If you haven’t had an unfiltered wine before, they are wines with extra texture, depth and flavour. Our favourite one is the Uivo Pet Nat from Portugal. Incredibly moreish and perfect for the summer evenings.

Indigenous Grapes and Emerging Regions

The world of wine is bigger than Cabernet and Chardonnay and 2025 is the year to get adventurous. Ever tried Assyrtiko from Greece or Fiano from Italy? How about a light, playful Trousseau from France? These indigenous varieties are taking the wine world by storm, offering unique flavours that are a far cry from the usual suspects.

Wineries in unexpected places are making waves. Think crisp whites from Slovenia, bold reds from Georgia and even sparkling wines from England. These regions are proving they can hold their own against the classics.

A Wine to Try: One of our favourite wines in the last few years comes from Crete, a delicious white from the Assyrtiko grape. Close your eyes and imagine the crispness of Chablis with the underlying fruitness of Albarino.

Sparkling Wine Beyond Champagne

While Champagne will always have a special place in our hearts, sparkling wines from other regions are stepping into the spotlight. Crémant, Cava and English Sparkling Wine are just a few examples of bubbles that deliver top-notch quality without breaking the bank. They’re perfect for celebrations or just because you feel like a bit of sparkle.

Pet-Nat (Pétillant Naturel) natural sparkling wines are fun, fizzy and full of character. They’re made using the ancestral method, giving them a rustic charm that’s incredibly appealing.

A Wine to Try: If you love Champagne, then trying a Sussex Sparkling should be hot on your list. Sussex in the UK has the same climate that Champagne had 30 years ago. The sparkling wines produced here are easy rivals to Champagne. My favourite is the Rathfinny Pink.

Technology Meets Wine

The digital age is changing the way we drink wine. Personalised wine recommendations from apps and digital shops are making it easier than ever to discover bottles you’ll love. Plus, who doesn’t love wine delivered straight to their door? Smart gadgets are on the rise too – from temperature-controlled wine fridges to aerators that bring out the best in your reds, tech is making sure your wine experience is as seamless as possible.
